I am getting a bearded dragon?

There is so much conflicted info I have a 40 gallon kit.

What light do I leave on at night if any? While summer time it stays warm in the room winter is does get chilly but we keep the house at 68. I usually crack hot hands and put them under a thin piece of fabric under the hides for my leopard geckos on really really chilly nights or if the power goes out in the side the under tank heater isn't on. Or do I get a under tank heater for the bearded dragon?

And do I stick the thermometer in the middle between the basking side and the cool side on more on the basking side?

Any other info is welcome like what fruits and veggies they can and cannot eat! I have other furry creatures I buy fruits and vegetables for so I want to know what they cannot have.

My leopard geckos eat mainly crickets since they won't touch meal worms or Dubia roaches!

You shouldn't have any lights ( that they can see) on at night. bearded dragons need a day and night cycle... having a light on at night will disturb their sleep.

68 might be a tad low, but 65 is when you need to start worrying. If you want, you can buy a ceramic heater. It's a light bulb without the light. Avoid any colored bulbs, they will keep them up at night and can damage their eyes.

A juvenile can eat 20 to 50 insects a day. Feed them as much as they will eat in 15 minutes two times a day. Dubai roaches are in my opinion the best main feeder. (crickets are terrible) veggies: collard greens, mustard greens, Parsley. They should be eating mostly insects though.

Avoid swiss chard, lettuce, beets, And spinach. (I don't like mealworms either. Not necessarily bad for them but other insects are way better for them)

Make sure they have a rock or log to bask on. A hide. Stuff to climb.

don't use sand as a substrate. Use tiles, reptile carpet, or even just paper towels. Just don't use sand...

I also keep a water dish for mine. It might not be necessary (if they are eating their veggies) but I see them drink from it all of the time.

If you are having a hard time getting them to eat greens, you can mix them with bee pollen. They can't overdose on it. It's healthy for them too

I know a guy who has "grow lights"... or heat lamps laid into the top of "cage". I do not know how to express it but the thing seems to be fine in very cold weather. It's 19-40 around Thanksgiving till St. Patrick's day here. Good luck !!
