I don't get it.
Why do people smoke even though they know it's dangers and consequences?

I don't get it.
Your country has the highest or one of the highest smoking rates on the planet, so YOU should know. :p
But if you want MY opinion, I think a lot of it has to do with peer preasure and think it's cool, but a lot of people also use it as a stress reliever and one of my buddies played American Football at school and he said it made him run faster. And the problem is that once you get hooked it's very difficult to quit. The cigarette companies deliberately put chemicals in there to make you addicted to the stuff.
I don't smoke so can't know for sure
Good, don't start. Some people do it to stay thin too
Yeah... I don't like smoking
Me neither, especially when they do it in front of me
Second hand smoke is worse than smoking itself.
When my cousin came to visit from Canada when I was 15, he would smoke cigarettes in front of me including in the car, and we had no idea it was illegal to smoke in front of anyone who's under 18.
Interesting
I was staying in a small village on the coast, in northern Greece, and I was shocked when I saw a 7 year old girl getting sold cigarettes. I'm assuming she was buying them for someone else, but still this would NEVER be allowed in the States
Hahhaa great
I'm not a smoker. I took a few drags one time and after hacking, I said, why would someone do this to themself.
I guess once you get past the hacking there is an addiction to the nicotine and how it relaxes a person. Similar to what a drink does for many people, and look how easy it is for people to become alcoholics.
I know a couple of smokers and they often say, they could be dead tomorrow from something else, so the potential adverse health issues arising from smoking doesn't seem to phase them.
I know one woman that smokes so she stays thin and doesn't have to workout, how crazy is that?
Thanks.🙌
It's just what you exitseven said. Everyone smoked cigarettes in the old days. We were never told they were unhealthy for us until about the 70's )- 5 years. By then we were all so addicted we couldn't stop because the withdrawals are unbearable to go through. They say it's worse than quitting heroin.
Becouse breaking the social noarm and being rebliues is "cool"
everyone tell me not to smoke? il show them!!!
Its sad but to really stop I think the image of it has to change to not intresting, and its not somethinv the tabaco companies will want

It's not something to be understood, but experienced. It's a craving, an impulse, much like the need to eat, sleep, love or go to the bathroom.
The emotional relief and stimulation smoking provides some people in the moment outweighs the long term consequence. Besides, people who resort to smoking habitually usually are too distressed to see that--and when they are relieved enough to have the clarity, they imagine a tragic irony where that state of mind is entirely dependent on their habit; they believe they can't afford to stop.
Because the consequences aren't linear, some people die of cancer who never smoked and other people smoke like a train until they are a hundred.
So just as you were doing before with the street racing thing you chose to believe that the negative consequences were for someone else, not for you.
Why do people speed? Why do people do risky adrenaline rush bullshit like skydive/zipline/bungyjump/base jump? WHT do people keep dating "their type" even tho it never works and they should know by now their type is trash and they need to change.
Why do people fuck around in abandoned biuldings or random caves?
People do all kinds of dumb shit in the quest for fun.
Addiction after starting. It creates a short term benefit of pleasure even though a costly long term effect may be caused at the same time based on the choice.
At the end of the day - its a trade off - similar to most things in life. As long as it makes someone happy and no kids are near, even though I don't like to smoke myself I have no problem with other enjoying it if it makes them happier overall.
The same reason you wake up every morning, despite knowing the consequences. Or go to sleep, knowing you might not wake up in the morning.
You live your life as you want, not how others want you to. Everyone has good and bad things they do. I smoke rarely these days, but make up for it by pissing on internet clowns like you, for entertainment.
So life balances itself out, and more people leave happy, than entered happy.
They like the experience of smoking. I know I did it for many years because I enjoyed the feeling of having smoke in my lungs.
I ended up quitting smoking because I just didn't feel like spending the money anymore. Other benefits, like smelling a lot better became obvious to me after I quit.
People smoke for various reasons, including addiction to nicotine, peer pressure, stress relief, and habit. Despite being aware of its dangers and health consequences, they may find it difficult to quit due to the addictive nature of nicotine and the psychological and emotional associations they have developed with smoking. Additionally, social and cultural factors can also play a role in an individual's decision to smoke.
Because they think they’re not likely to suffer any adverse effects.
I smoked for years thinking: “I’m young, not gonna get cancer tomorrow.” Thinking: “it will be years before this really effects my health.”
Not to mention the added benefit of stress reduction, it seemed like a great plan.
I don’t think I need to state how unwise and foolish my line of thinking was, but that’s why I did it and I presume it is likely the same with those who smoke.
I once tried to smoke a cigarette, just to find out what it was all about, but in the end I just felt like a complete idiot. It was such a pointless, unfulfilling exercise in futility, a purposeless activity that satisfied nothing.
They are weak minded and can't control there very bad habit. I find a lot if people get easily addicted to useless things. It's all will power and brain power. And I use to smoke socially when I was younger. Quit was the best think ever. I'll never understand the point of cigarettes. It's all bad things, not 1 good thing about it.
Why do people drink and drive, why do guys think strippers love them, why do people keep doing things like the milk create challenge
. People (humans in general) are not that smart. Especially when they think others will see them as cool if they do something dumb.
Because they like it and that's the choice they made, to be risky. It's the same as people who get drunk, they know it's over their alcohol limit, but they still do it anyway. All while knowing it's bad for your health.
My mother died of lung cancer but she never smoked a day in her life. So, consequences don't really matter to me. You can die crossing the street. I nearly died from internal bleeding in a fluke accident.
This is true, but I’d encourage you to look beyond death. There’s nothing to say you won’t have your quality of life greatly reduced for the last several years of your life.
Yes, smoking may result eventually in death, but first it will likely result in poor health and vastly diminished quality of life.
They are addicted to it.
They actually put additives in cigarettes to make them more addictive.
I never smoked, but from what I have read it is hard to quit than cocaine.
plus, the person really wants to quit just like any other addiction.
When they are young they want everyone to think that they are cool and never imagine that someday they will get old and die. Then they get addicted and it is a really tough habit to break
they start for some reason, usually to fit insocially or deal with a stressful event, then they can't or don't want to quit since they cannot relax without the drug.
I presume it's a hard habit to break. People smoke for many reasons (looks/image, stress, enjoyment). Doubt I ever try, not appealing at all
Oh that's very simple. :D
"IDGAF. I'm an adult, fk ooooffff..."
Because they are free to do what they want even tho it kills them. Addiction is a dangerous and deadly thing. Smoking, drinking alcohol, etc… will have major consequences but addicts will never willing break from it
Because there is too little co2 in the atmosphere, a nutrient required by the human body.
