Would you feel safer in the bedroom right off the fire escape, or right off the hallway of the apartment building?

Question

Obviously in the case of fire, I’d feel safer in the bedroom off the fire escape but of course that makes it easy for someone to climb through your window 🪟and if someone entered my apartment, not sure if I’d have a better chance of making it if I were right off the building or into the courtyard.

If the fire escape led to an isolated area then no chance but it’s in the middle of all the other back doors of apartments and where the cars park. Also the fire escape is right outside the bed so I have direct access to outside but then they’d probably be coming in that way which is bad 😂 🤦🏻‍♀️ The front door attached to the hallway of the building is about 20 feet away from the bed but then they wouldn’t be coming in the front door which is good 🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️

I never lived anywhere with a fire escape. I never lived anywhere with a hallway entrance, unless you count motels.

I sleep in a basement. If there was a fire I might be in trouble. The windows are too high and small for an old man to climb out. So if the route up the stairs is blocked I'm in trouble.

I never think about it though. I used to do dangerous work. Every day when I went to work I knew I could be dead or seriously injured before the end of the day. There is almost nothing in the house that I'm concerned about unless I'm doing something stupid, like working on live circuits. I got bit with 220V a week or so ago. I still haven't covered it up. So 220 is still exposed. I suppose I should deal with that.

The long and the short of it is that any drunk moron can fall asleep with food cooking and start a fire and blocks of flats or apartments i guess you call them are inheriently dangerous.

There simply is no way to be 'safe' in this situation, the only way to protect yourself is to simply not be in this situation.

Perhaps you could look up some statistics or talk to your local fire department about your concerns and try to get a sense of what the risks actually are objectively?

You might be many times more likely to be hit by a bus going out the front door in the morning than either of these other risks.

Depends how worried you are about a fire happening between your bedroom and an appropriate exit whilst you're sleeping.
With decent care, the chances of a fire in your apartment is minimal unless it hasn't seen an electrician in the last 40 years.
If your main concern is someone breaking in, then obviously the fire escape is the worst place as it is only one step from outside but there are two doors, your apartment and then the entry door.
Also, if the fire escape is only in your bedroom, if there is anyone else living with you, they have to go through your room.
Overall, I'd prefer my bedroom removed form any entry point, preferably with a corridor between it and the living area.

And I suppose you live in an apartment. You should know concrete buildings Panelkis were fire proof but problem is people use wall paper and plastic that is a fire hazard.

Honestly it's never even crossed my mind. So I guess that means I'd feel safe either was as I'd be oblivious to the potential threat. To be fair though I've never lived in an apartment.

I would think being next to a fire escape is good in the event of a fire, but bad with respect to privacy and how easily someone could potentially use the fire escape as a way to enter your unit.

So there are pro's and con's for both sides.

i trust hallways infinitely more than I trust people who might be hanging around fire escapes. But if the bedroom door was lockable, I guess I could survive at either spot. might have some crazy nightmares though. lol

What a riddle from the skyscrapper girl, i'll climb these stairs and jump inside the skyscrapper girl's room, at 1st she will scream and thinks that she's going to get hurt than she finds out that it's me, she will laugh and eat the cookies that i brought to her to make her legs grow longer haha

After all this, it's me who's going to scream cause the skyscrapper girl will lock all the windows and doors on me so she keeps me in and mr mr will betray me and helo her 😁🦜

I would feel much safer in a building without a fire escape. Fire escapes are a very poor method of egress compared to a fire-proof stairwell in a modern apartment building.
