My neurologist gave me an antidepressant for my migraine headaches… Is this normal?

Antidepressants have multiple uses. People here don't know what they are talking about. Just like seroquel is an antipsychotic but can be prescribed as a sleep aid. A lot of meds have multiple uses or get repurposed.

This is true, just that the psychological drugs seems risky…

But the headaches suck enough for me to risk it.

I previously used gabapentin for a while for headaches and pain but the side effects were debilitating.

I personally stay away from those kinds of drugs. I would do everything I could to be healthy and see if that helps the headaches.

Have you had your hormones and nutrient levels checked? Do you take pre and pro biotics? Do you exercise? Try an elimination diet. Start by cutting all sugar except for fruit, not fruit juice, and cut off all grains. Oftentimes, it is your body telling you something is off. The meds are a bandaid, not a fix. I can relate. I have had chronic pain since I was 19 from a car accident and a botched surgery. Taking care of my health has lessened my issues. Low t can cause headaches.

I’ve done countless diet changes. And I take prebiotics as well as eat healthy.

I have no idea about hormones but they check my blood every year.

My headaches are also due to brain injury as well as spine injury. Also sinuses and allergies.

I’ve destroyed my stomach with nsaids and neurologists are my remaining option

I’ll ask about the horemone thing…

Best of luck to you. I would still recommend taking supplements such as ag1. It isn't possible to eat all the nutrients you need to be optimal.

Well think of the logic, I'm no doctor but if you have depression and that's the core to your headaches then if they give you treatment for the depression which is the core of them, then it should stop the headaches as well, could also be anxiety, anxiety can cause so many problems you'd be surprised on the damage it can do

That's the first time I have ever heard of that, but I have no idea. I have to say though, I personally wouldn't want to take a medication that artificially altered my mood and my brain's chemistry, just for a headache issue. To me, it seems kind of odd they would prescribe an antidepressant for a non-depression issue.

However, if you have chronic headaches, try taking magnesium. Sometimes they can be caused by a magnesium deficiency. It's worth a shot, and it's completely safe to try it, as every human body requires magnesium. Just be sure to not take more than the recommended dose if you do decide to try it.

There are specific medications prescription just for migraines.

So many doctors give women antidepressants for anything and everything because they think that it's all in our heads. That we are crazy or whatever. I have been to many many doctors in my life, and most of them try to get me on antidepressants. Screw them for misdiagnosising us. They are the one's that need the antidepressants!!! Or better yet, they need antipsychotics cause they are the crazy one's. Errrr!
