Is there a good solution for Migraine Headaches?

I get Migraines. Light hurts my eyes and the only way that I can receive them is with OTC pain relievers, lights off, and sleep. My PCP says this is the best way for sure. I don't like missing so much time, but I must get some relief. Does anybody have something they do that relieves Migraine Headaches? Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on triggers. I have seven.
Toxic exposure such as tire stores, laundry detergent and air freshener aisles, even fertilizing the lawn can be stopped with a shot glass full of white Zinfandel wine. It has to be blush for me. I'll take two shots a day (lunch and dinner) for about three- five days and the migraine will not manifest.

If its a strained neck/back from exercise I need edible marijuana, usually in the form of some mints. I try to get low THC high CBD and from pain management strains. If I can't find those I'd get the oil form.

The rest cannot be stopped. And I can't take pain meds. So it's just as you say cool dark room and riding it out. Sometimes they last 19 hours and I can't turn off my right side. Huge pain.

It really boils down to finding your own methods that work for you. I used to get 15 a month average, twenty years of that. Now I get one once in a while. I also get the lightning bolt migraines which tend to only last about 40 minutes without pain, but I can't see it all.

There are worse things to inflict the human being so I try not to complain too much myself. But goodness they do hurt at times. Crushing.

I take prescription migraine medicine and drink a cup of coffee. I lie down in a cool room that's quiet 🤫 🤐. I get a washcloth and get it soaked with cold water, fold it up twice then put it over my eyes.
The room also has to be dark as I have photosensitivity like the asker does.

A migraine is caused by the blood vessels in your head dilating too much.
This causes a drop in the blood pressure in your head, leading to pain.
It'susually caused by not enough sodium chloride in the blood.
Eat something salty.

A headache is often the opposite (overly constricted blood vessels), so if the salty snack makes it worse, its a headache, not a migraine.

If the salty snack does nothing, its either not enough salt, not enough carbs and water to absorb the salt into you, or its a headache from toxins or injury rather than localized hypertension.

I'd listen to your PCP first, but maybe give herbal, topical medicines a try? Now, they're not guaranteed to work and may be be totally useless but some stuff like amrudajan and tiger balm can possibly help alleviate the pain quite a bit. Especially if its concentrated around a smaller area like around the temples.
If you don't mind tea, Darjeeling and Green teas are very soothing.

Solutions are difficult to come by. You almost have to try nearly everything under the sun to see if they even help - while also not making the migraines worse or cause other issues.

As much as it sucks to lose time, I would listen to your doctor. There’s really nothing else that can be done unless you can find and neutralize the source of the migraines.

I get them so bad I start vomiting and loose my vision. Try a caffeine drink, or wear sun glasses I know certain lighting triggers my migraines.

Say farewell to the sugary & caffeinated drinks & switch to water, juice, milk, smoothies, tea & protein shakes. Your body will thank you.

I use paracetamol with caffeine a small dose and it helps me. But I have heard it doesn't help everybody or some people can't use it because they're taking other medications. But if you can use it definitely try it out.

I've gotten migraines since I was a kid, fortunately they're not as bad as they were when i was a kid but my eyes also become light sensitive. I take extra strength tylenol and go to sleep in a dark room.

Avoid certain foods which can trigger migraines. eg chocolate and cheese. Also don’t drink to much caffeine.

I’ve heard sex/orgasm is a good reliever for such things. So just a thought. Lol.
