+1 yWell-selected antidepressants work. However, it's often not enough to simply prescribe a popular medication. In many cases, depression coexists with other illnesses or disorders, and then it's necessary to test different types of drugs and combinations to find a set that works for that specific individual. Doctors rarely offer drug selection in a clinic, where 24-hour care helps determine when medications are working well and when they are not. It's worth remembering this option when a doctor claims to have exhausted all means.
With antidepressants, it's also important to remember regular heart monitoring (ECG).

+1 yYes! But everyone is different and it can be trial and error trying to find the right anti depressant and the correct dose. From what I remember it takes a while to take affect. Depression is horrible if all you have to do is take a pill to maybe feel better, I’d say you have nothing to lose other than mild side affects.

+1 ysolving the problem works.
get engaged in solving your deeper issues, rest, meditate, heal your heart. Set goals and work towars them, practice gratitutde and celebrate little successes. end the day with thanks and forgiveness.
Go to church and pray to God.
that will work.

+1 yThey work to numb your senses. Nothing more than that. They don't solve the problem. Healthy body, mind and environment are the real solutions.

What if you couldn't overcome traumas?
- +1 y
If a healthy environment isn't being enough to overcome it, anti depressants still won't do much but to numb your mind for a while. In that case, you will have to leave it on time and pray. It gets better.

I don't have healthy environment 😂

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yNo they make you numb. I took them years ago. I went a whole year without any emotion. (You could see I had like no homrones om blood test). I was walking flesh. Couldnt feel happy, sad, angry, amxious not even boredom. can't explain it unless you experience it bur that was many years ago I can feel now.

What about if i am struggling with anxiety, still i shouldn't use?
Opinion Owner+1 yNever. You wanna be a walking flesh?
You know I had plans to shoot up a whole school. Could easily have done it. I could also donate all my money. Nothing mattered.
Opinion Owner+1 yIf I reach that point again I'll just end it. Anxiety is far better than death. If you have anxiety you need to figure out why
- +1 y
I know the cause of anxiety and I tried many solutions, so as a last solution I decided to go to a psychiatrist, that is, medications:/
- +1 y
And i thought i need this cuz i am in hard times i have to study so much but because of anxiety i really can't study well
Opinion Owner+1 yYeah stay away from pshychologists they are psychopaths. If anything go to therapy that is private owned
Opinion Owner1 y@AngryCarl not true as someone who has taken them i'd know but you believe what you want
1 yIn my experience yes, they can. I started on one this year and it's my second time giving antidepressants a try. My first one was years ago and when they upped the dosage it gave me side effects I didn't like (teeth clenching & feeling very dull). This new one I'm on works and doesn't have any side effects that can be addictive. I have to take it at night as it makes you sleepy. But I'm happy with it.
10 ReplyIf you are depressed, they work. They take time to work, and shouldn’t be used ‘forever’. Just long enough so that you feel like your old self and can function day to day.
If after 4 months there is no change, try a different one.10 Reply

She was so depressed when I called her and now she’s singing all the time.

m +1 yShort answer: Yes.
Long answer: Be careful with the choice of your doctor describing them. Not everything is suited for everybody and some people need therapy more than pharmaceuticals.

Did they make you numb or feel relaxed?
+1 yNo, like many other modern medicines, they work for little bit or feel like they are working, and then you find out, they really aren't working.. I heard it makes you numb..

@AngryCarl No, but uh I've read plenty of stories where people were on anti-depressants, and that's exactly what they would say..
551 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. they can, but it is also a good idea to find out the root cause of your depression and work on that.
There is no magic pill that will make life instantly better.

No one on here can give you professional advice. Just general advice.
