Well-selected antidepressants work. However, it's often not enough to simply prescribe a popular medication. In many cases, depression coexists with other illnesses or disorders, and then it's necessary to test different types of drugs and combinations to find a set that works for that specific individual. Doctors rarely offer drug selection in a clinic, where 24-hour care helps determine when medications are working well and when they are not. It's worth remembering this option when a doctor claims to have exhausted all means.

With antidepressants, it's also important to remember regular heart monitoring (ECG).

Yes! But everyone is different and it can be trial and error trying to find the right anti depressant and the correct dose. From what I remember it takes a while to take affect. Depression is horrible if all you have to do is take a pill to maybe feel better, I’d say you have nothing to lose other than mild side affects.

    solving the problem works.

get engaged in solving your deeper issues, rest, meditate, heal your heart. Set goals and work towars them, practice gratitutde and celebrate little successes. end the day with thanks and forgiveness.

Go to church and pray to God.

    that will work.

They work to numb your senses. Nothing more than that. They don't solve the problem. Healthy body, mind and environment are the real solutions.

If a healthy environment isn't being enough to overcome it, anti depressants still won't do much but to numb your mind for a while. In that case, you will have to leave it on time and pray. It gets better.

Infromation: Anti-depressants and anti-anxiolytics are not the same thing. Anti-depressants don't turn you into a zombie, they either do nothing or they make you feel more alive, optimistic.

In my experience yes, they can. I started on one this year and it's my second time giving antidepressants a try. My first one was years ago and when they upped the dosage it gave me side effects I didn't like (teeth clenching & feeling very dull). This new one I'm on works and doesn't have any side effects that can be addictive. I have to take it at night as it makes you sleepy. But I'm happy with it.

If you are depressed, they work. They take time to work, and shouldn’t be used ‘forever’. Just long enough so that you feel like your old self and can function day to day.
If after 4 months there is no change, try a different one.

Short term, yes. Unless you use the improvement to deal with the cause of the initial depression it will come back. Like a Terminator, but without the subtle charm of a homicidal cyborg...

    Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Be careful with the choice of your doctor describing them. Not everything is suited for everybody and some people need therapy more than pharmaceuticals.

Yes but for me antidepressants are:

    Exercising

    Fixing Cars

    Napping with my cat

No Electronics for a few hours

    Doing volunteer work

    Reading

    All highly effective

they can, but it is also a good idea to find out the root cause of your depression and work on that.
There is no magic pill that will make life instantly better.
That has to come from within.

I don't think you should be getting medical advice from GaG users. It would help to speak to someone medically educated in a professional, confidential environment.

No one on here can give you professional advice. Just general advice.

But they can give you their personal experiences. That could be more useful than mindlessly prescribing drugs you've never taken, that are being pushed by Big Pharma for some reason. I'm just saying.
