How can this actually work?

An ER/ED (emergency room/department) is part of any hospital. It serves two purposes 1) You WILL die unless you get immediate care 2) You might need to be admitted but your doctors can't see you in a timely manner.

This was a situation for me. I went to the ED at a hospital in my network and left before signing in. Why? The wait time was 20 HOURS! I don't see how emergency care is possible when you have to wait 20 hours to get seen. Plus unlike a doctor, you can't set up an ED appointment. You have to be there the entire time.

Instead I went to an out of network Urgent Care facility, but if it was an emergency rather than possible hospitalization before 2 weeks from now, I might have died.

Since I seem to need care only when my doctors aren't available, I am considering concierge medicine and just having my pulmonologist (my only specialist) just admit me when necessary.

Wow dude, 20 hours in the ER wait is brutal! I don't know how they expect anyone to really get "emergency" care like that. It's pretty messed up that their system is so backed up.

Honestly in a real emergency, I don't think I'd wait either. Like if I was bleeding out or something, 20 hours would be way too late! I'd probably call an ambulance if it was that bad.

Otherwise, yeah urgent care is a way better option if you can get in sooner. At least there you know your spot in line instead of just waiting forever at the ER.

I don't get how hospitals let it get so clogged up. Feel like they need way more staff or something to actually help emergencies on time. Or maybe separate things more so not as many people clog the ER who don't really need to be there, you know?

It's definitely a flawed system if you ask me. Glad you were safe going to urgent care instead, dude. But they gotta fix that wait time if they want the ER to work for real emergencies!

Don't look at at me, I just went on the vegan diet, and my "whatever" problems went away. All I know is that my bloodwork liver count was high, even months after a went vegan and started to feel better. Hospitals and pharmaceutical companies are business to make money. People need to be their own doctors. Just simply going vegan AND not eating sugars for a few months cures more so called incurable things like cancer for example that I can even name. When my muscles are sore or fatigued, feel weak overall OR can't sleep I spray on magnesium, problems solved instantly. Sore throat, cold coming on and feel sort of hat and cold?, heart attack, internal bleeding, eat Cayenne pepper, problems solved instantly.

Going vegan when I am allergic to nuts and soy would eliminate my problems after a few years. I would die of malnutrition.

From what I've learned allergies are caused from eating things like modern day wheat, dairy products and refined sugar. Cancer for instance comes from high acidity in the body which comes from eating animal flesh and (also eating sugars, but not eating that and fruit is only for a few months). Hmm, there is GMO soy that I'll never eat, well really gmo anything is bad. The problem with going on the vegan diet is that one has to be well educated on the subject, because it's totally different than what one is use to eat. I have more energy than anyone. I'm thinner and stronger than I use to be before the vegan diet. Anything you hear or know is a lie.

I had a friend who was vegan, a teacher in highschool who was, and my cousin is vegan and works to promote a vegan lifestyle. After hearing of my allergies, she said that veganism while possible is probably not a good choice for me. It's possible for me to get the nutrients I need, but not easy if I embrace veganism when nuts and soy are excluded.

ER is for emergencies. If it isn't urgent you wait. I went to the ER last summer someone drove me there. . I was having a heart attack. I walked in but barely. The doors to the triage opened & I was wheeled in ahead of anyone else there. It was a life or death situation. Trouble is there are so many people here that don't have a family doctor to see. So they end up clogging up the ER.

My regular doctor tells me to go to the ER or Urgent Care. He's very busy or not in the office.
The last ER visit we were there for 8 hours. And I didn't even get to lay (lie) down. I had to sit in a wheelchair the whole time. And I came in the ER in an ambulance because I could hardly breathe and I was dehydrated too.
They wanted me to stay one more hour for the paperwork. But I left because I couldn't sit there anymore. So she gives the form "Left against medical advice." That wasn't the reason 🙄

If they're telling you the wait time is 20 hours then you don't have an emergency. The emergency patients are taken in right away, especially those who come in by ambulance. The ones who are coming in just for a doctor visit have to wait as long as it takes.

They told the person ahead of us it was that long. Two different doctors told me to di that because I might have needed a CT scan. I wasn't in danger of immediately dying but with a scaly comprised immune system it was possible that it would become deadly if it wasn't already

Also waiting that long with sick people would have probably ensured I got sick and possibly died.

Emergency departments are just that - emergencies are prioritised. If you’re not in life threatening condition, then you’ll be waiting a while. Wait times differ from hospital to hospital and how busy they are. If you’ve gone to the hospital for a broken arm, and the person who arrives after you has just been in a horrific car accident, then they will be seen to before you.

The ER once left me in the waiting room for 2 hrs while my son's pinky toe was hanging off his foot bleeding all over the place. He was apparently a priority compared to others there. And I also couldn't go somewhere else cuz that's where the ambulance took us. I'm really not sure how they organize everything but it's not a good system

The medical business used covid as an excuse to deliver a substandard level of care. Now that covid is over they save money by cutting staff and reducing services.

The emergency rooms where I live are filled with illegal aliens. It is not even worth it to go. In hope I never have to go there.
