What do you think of people who use other people's pics as their profile pic?

There are those who do not put up any profile pics

There are those who put up pics which are of anything but themselves, random stuff but not of any person

There are those who compulsively put up their own pics

Then there are those who use pics of other human beings like celebrities or famous people or anyone else but themselves

What does it take to want to use another human being's pic on your profile? What is the thought process behind it?

It is one thing to have "online anxiety" about showing your own pics online and not do so, which is totally Ok. But to use some other person's pic as your own, whether someone famous who can be recognised or not, that is another kind of catfishing, just for the fuck of it.

While it's wrong to use other people's pics without their permission, I don't really care too much. I've posted myself on here anonymously before and because of the response (which was actually rather positive but had some creeps) I don't plan on ever putting my real pic on here but I would never use another person's pic. That's just weird to me. But some people are very insecure about how they look and would rather be anyone else but themselves. I don't judge but I don't think people should use other people's pics without permission. If it's a celebrity that's fine but just a regular person you stole from IG or FB is weird.

And I've seen quite a few users do it.

Exactly. To me what that means is that they are so insignificant to themselves that they would rather pose as someone else. Very weak identity or just plain devious. If they don't want to post their own pic, just don't post anything, why post someone else's pic.

I have reported many profiles after using reverse image search to track down where the pics originated, but I was told by admins they are free to use any pics they like. This website has no standards, as you can probably tell by the disgusting filth posted in the sexuality section.

Oh true. Because they just want a big userbase so they don't care about what pics are used. But I am glad you used to report :-) It is not like many people care. And I had meant not just on this app but all over the internet too.

Not yet. Don't have reason to yet. If you want to compare G@G to Facebook, I have reported nudity, cam girls, links to porn sites, suspected scams, etc. on Facebook, but nothing ever gets removed. You just get a "We found nothing wrong with this profile or post"

@NoDecision Oh so you have done some cyber policing :-) Yes it does not yield anything. Because these apps run on a business model that includes unethical use or misuse to gain popularity. Still, you did what was right, good to know!

Great question? No clue. I use no picture for a few reasons, one is to eliminate any bias that a simple photo might garner.

I already acknowledged every type of profile pic preferences people have, including those who do not put their pics up. The question was about people who put up pics not their own. Are you one of them? Is your pic not your own? If it is then why are you taking offense? And putting up no pic is not the same as putting up someone else's pic. People not wanting to put up their pic is a choice same as it is to put pics up.

@QuestionObsession Well obviously you can tell when some people are using pics not their own, like if they used Taylor Swift's pic, or that of a dog or cat. My question is why be obsessed with it. We are all basically anonymous here anyway, no matter what pic we use, even when using your own. Besides, it's not like you will ever meet any of the people here on G@G anyway. 🤔

I am not obsessed, it is just an observation out of millions of others that all the others on this app have asked questions on about people's behaviour and preferences on whatever they do. And even if someone was obsessed with something and asked a question about it, this is a question asking app. Why would it bother you?

And it is not true that you would never meet someone from this app in real life. I know some who did and there will be many others who have. Just because it hasn't happened to you or you don't want to meet anyone, does not mean it is a universal thing 🥳

@NoDecision Yep. For example, I could ask you why is the Captcha thing such a big deal to you, when it is a trivial thing to most of the people.

But I share your concern on that. It is intrusive/ invasive tech used solely to track our online behaviour while selling it to us as 'security'.
