Do you buy stock in the companies you consume, or do you let someone else pick for you?

I've always thought the stock market was a scam. But I know many people that have gotten wealthier from it. All of them actually. I've never heard a bad story unless it was one that was a shared story. Like a recession or something. How do you feel about the stock market?

Some. Like i own stock in the company that is the parent company of my power bill. So i always like to joke when i'm paying my power bill that i'm paying myself. I own Stock in Domino's it makes up like 2% of my portfolio. I don't eat it a lot. But when i eat pizza it's usually Domino's. I use Google and i have stock in that. I have stock in Coca Cola though ironically that's a company i go the other direction with. I almost never drink Coke. And then of course there's my former employer. I won't tell you what stock that is. But i will say this. It recently joined the S&P and i was matched with a half million in company stock over my career with the company. So even though i don't work there anymore and i don't hold a lot of affection towards them. For me to not support them would be like cutting myself off at the knees. At this point, their success is my success.😂

I don't buy any stocks of companies I personally use. I only buy based on numbers. Stocks are a little high right now so I've sold a lot but the stocks I currently hold I don't even know the name of the companies or what they do. I know ticker symbols and sectors but I don't care about the company or what they do as long as the chart and numbers look good.

Standard advice is to buy a diversified equity-bond 70:30 portfolio.

The problem with picking your own stocks is not that you'll pick poorly. The problem is you diversify less and hence carry more risk for the same expected return.

you know those vanguard, blackrock companies should just diversify so much that all companies get a good share. even out the flow of money. i guarantee you that extra money going into the business isn't doing much good. unless that company is known for it's innovation or constant updates. those smaller companies struggle to keep up but could be better with a little help.

I have AT&T , that's it. The stock market is so manipulated and political , I find it too risky. I like Metals , they can never be $0 and you always need them good or bad times.

No, selling gold , Platinum, Gold Filled. A few pieces of Silver Jewelry. I am up to Graded Gold Jewelry, which is worth more. If Gold got to $10,000 or $15,000 , I might scrap those.

they should make a game on that similar to Monopoly that at enlightens us on how the stock market work. though I doubt it will ever happen since the elites do not appreciate at least 60% of the population becoming stock brokers
