If you were a pumpkin, do you think you could survive Halloween?

If I were a flat-sided, grotesquely misshapen, discolored pumpkin, I might consider my chances as better than 50/50 of surviving the Halloween rituals, but you never know these days, there are folks who are into that sort of thing.

So, if I was such a pumpkin, and if I were to succumb to the emboweling and mutilation that pumpkins are traditionally subjected to, should I count myself fortunate for being selected as a desirable object of inclusion in the yearly custom, or would I be better off rotting in the field?
