Yes, I gave receipt with the gift so that they can claim warranty if needed.
I also don't get bothered if no one wishes me during my birthday or wishes me before or after my birthday. Keeping less expectations doesn't make you sad and makes you more happier if someone wishes you.
Most of the times I give cash to make it easy.

Unless I know exactly what the person wants, I tend to gift money. People say that it is not thoughtful, but it is actually very thoughtful. No need for the recipient to pretend that he or she likes it, return it for credit, and then hope that I never ask about it. With money, the recipient can get what he or she wants or pay a bill that was causing stress.
