Is Santa American?

Question

In another of my questions several people said Santa doesn't need to speak every language because Santa is American and so only speaks English, adding if little children don't like it they can sod off (or words to that effect)

Now I always thought Santa lived at the North Pole and was neutral. If anything, he was Danish because his clothes are the same colour as the Danish flag.

Now if he's American I'm not comfortable with that. He could be bringing drugs into my country or here to spy for a military invasion.

So thoughts, is Santa an American and should he stay there?

Santa is most definitely not American. In fact, the American understanding of Santa Claus likely arrived here with Dutch immigrants.
The tales of Saint Nick are based upon a real Turkish dude who lived only a few hundred years after Jesus died. It’s interesting that their legacies would cross over hundreds of more years later.
St. Nicholas was just a good man who took care of children and poor families and, i just learned, sailors. As his legacy grew, so did his legend. Now many people think he’s just a myth created to promote a secularist Christmas tradition. Jesus and St. Nick actually had a lot in common. I’m a fan of both.
Regardless, there is no intrinsically American iteration of Santa. Like most traditions in the US, it was heavily influenced by other cultures.

But it is getting lost in our culture. Don't know how or why but children know more Santa than Christkind nowadays. So sad...

Santa is a fat white guy who lives out in the middle of nowhere, and has the worst diet you can imagine. I don't think you can get more American then that, well unless Santa does a school shooting.

If he were any nationality, I would say he's Turkish or Roman, since the original person he was based on, St Nicholas, was born in Turkey during the time of the Roman Empire.

I thought Santa was from Lapland in northern Finland or at least from the Nordic countries. But Santa is old school, not the pansies that inhabit those nations now and Santa will be bringing a huge arsenal of AR-15s and 9mm pistols to American good boys and girls this year. With just this year’s haul, these kids could take Ireland.

Now the current Santa might be American since the last recorded succession was when Scott Calvin startled the then Santa, who fell off his roof, but traditionally Santa pre-dates the USA so the Santa concept is not American.
