Coincidence? I think probably. This all links to just that pride is in June. But like there's just a lot of gay related stuff that's happened at that time. I mean I'm not gay but I don't like any extreme take on these topics cuz they take over people's hearts and minds usually. A pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history was the June 1969 Stonewall Riots that occurred at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village in Manhattan NYC. Basically, the gay community became rioted and became outspoken in response to the police violence they were getting after the police raid of 28 JUN 1969. On the 1970 anniversary of Stonewall, gay pride marches began in other cities.

On 26 JUN 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges.
The Court ruled that persons could not be banned from being in same-sex marriages and that such marriages performed in any state must be recognized by all states and the Federal Government.

There was a time when gay people had to hide the fact that they were gay. It’s not just about marriage. It’s about now being able to have PRIDE in who you are, and not the shame that it used to bring.

It doesn't. It has to do with being openly homesexual; within living memory, vhat could get you fired, ostracized, or jailed. Is the US today, the idea that homosexualihy is still demonized is patently absurd; modern celebrations are about lust, not pride. But Tehran, or Beirut, or Archangelsk, it's a VERY different story.

It’s a self-pride movement, like any “pride” parade or the like. These are done by/for demographics who have historically been made to feel ashamed of who they are by society. The world is evolving and becoming more accepting, and this months or events are meant to allow these people to feel pride in themselves after being broadly shamed for so long.

I think for the majority of those people it's more a celebration of getting to this point of acceptance in society. For some it is prideful as many in groups tend to act prideful of themselves. Some even earn it to a degree but it's not healthy in any case.

It's left over from when gay people couldn't get married but still wanted to show that despite that they were proud to be gay and didn't feel the need to hide it.

It's a bit out of date now as gay people have all the same rights as hetero people. Which is why they dropped "gay" from the name and they're trying to expand it to trannies.
