A few years ago, perhaps my mom… she’s gone though, so there’s some small
relief. When healthy, she’d have made it about her and what SHE wanted, and she’d try to control almost everything… And if I did anything fun that was a little silly or informal (that my bride and I might want) maybe a little outside of “tradition,” she’d have a fit, and be sulky and obnoxious if she wouldn’t get her way, and she’d let everybody know.
I have a few “friends” who I don’t know if I would invite them… one has some drug problems, so while I wish he could be invited, he’s too much of “an unknown.” I love the guy like family, but he’s got too many problems at the moment to be as close as we should be (or would be if he got sober).
Another “friend” (who has done a lot of damage to the friendship) is, like the first friend, too much of an unknown (ironically, you’d think HE was on drugs, with his behavior, but he’s usually sober when he is misbehaving)… but I’d probably be guilted into inviting him (or he’d be a plus one for another mutual friend). But I think I would breathe a lot easier if he couldn’t attend.
Though I think some things will change before I have to concern myself with any of that. I’m not really thinking too deeply about it - I’m years away from marriage, if it even happens.

When she was in the hospital, he threw rocks at her window and kept coming in, trying to torment her. He abused her in their relationship, and apparently he's concluded that if he can't have her, neither can I.
But I put him in his place, he won't be bothering her, anymore

All fair reasons when one wants to marry someone and should be respected without hesitation. I didn't intentionally invite some relatives but it was pandemic times, so I don't know if they got it :D Nevertheless, I couldn't care less. We invited as many as we could afford, and it become the ones we wanted.
I don’t want a wedding, but if we’re having a small get together he can invite whoever he wants. There’s no one I really dislike, he has no female friends, and I know some of his male friends from work.
When I got married, only my husband’s grandparents came. Granted we didn’t have a big wedding but a lot of his family aren’t good people.
