If marriage licenses had to be renewed every X years, how much would that improve marriages?

Marriage would improve if prenuptial agreements were required, DNA/paternity tests were required, alimony was eliminated, and child custody was automatically 50/50. Also, proven infidelity while married should be a crime punishable by one year in prison for each year married.

If there were clear and enforceable expectations, people wouldn't get into marriage as often with ulterior motives.

@HighValue DNA/Paternity yes, the rest no. The infidelity law would disproportionately favor women as it's much easier for them to have sex than men.

People should be free to make their own choices. Personally, I find marriage overrated.
However, if you enter the union, you should respect it for what it is. A life-ling commitment. If you can’t commit to that, don’t get married.
I just can’t see inviting the government into your private life any more than is already necessary, which is what you’re suggesting.

You claim your concern is "inviting government deeper into our private lives" Yet you aren't advocating for the elimination of the governments biggest intrusion in our private lives? You're position doesn't need to be all or nothing but it should be congruent. If your issue is unwanted government intrusion, why would you be advocating for marriage at all, especially considering that it's an elective intrusion that can be avoided all together?
