She copied EVERYTHING about our wedding- wtf?

Hey,

I wanted to get your take on something because I’m not sure if I’m overreacting. One of my partner’s close friends eloped just two weeks after us. They were our legal witnesses, which we really appreciated.

But here’s the thing - they ended up copying EVERYTHING from our elopement. Same photographer, same hair and makeup artist, same hairstyle, same makeup, party poppers, and they even changed their location to the exact same as ours.

It’s honestly frustrating, especially since they didn’t mention anything about doing the same thing. Even our friends have picked up on it.

Also, our wedding photos turned basically the same because we had the same photographer, same poses, venue, party poppers etc.

What do you think? Should I say something, or just let it slide and keep the peace?

That is kind of weird… but maybe you inspire them? How good of friends are you? Do you value your friendship? Do you feel like it would be worth ruining your friendship? These are questions you should be asking yourself. Follow your intuition.


Do you feel like she’s trying to copy and paste your life? That would make me feel kind of weird honestly. Did she help you with planning your wedding? If so maybe she shared a lot of ideas and then realized how much she loved your wedding and she wanted the same experience? The intent was probably not malicious but maybe you inspired her and looking at that way that’s kind of cool?

Thanks! We’re still fairly new friends, but we get along well. I planned my wedding myself, so it feels a bit weird that she’s copying everything without saying anything first. It wouldn’t have felt as strange if she had just acknowledged it or given me a heads-up before doing it. I think from now on, I’m going to keep things more private, just in case she tries to copy more of what I do—there clearly need to be some boundaries now.

Your feelings are totally valid! Maybe some clear communication on how it made you feel can help clear the air? Last thing you want is to hold on to it and then your friendship turn sore because of pent up feelings. I think everything you are stating to me right now can easily be communicated without coming off rude or starting an argument. Maybe start the conversation off as hey do you have a moment to talk? You know our friendship is fairly new and communication is really important to me. Then explain to her how it all made you feel in a mature way and tell her moving forward in your friendship with her you would value more open communication?

Privacy is important as well though!

I don't know. My mom did the same thing to two of my sisters. I bet they didn’t appreciate that since they didn’t plan it. But if your friend planned it, you did it first, so ehhh
