As we all know - there are things in life on which you should definitely splurge, but then there are those on which you should be savvy enough to save on and don't get sucked into the hype of it all.

First thing's first: Don't trust anyone, trust everyone!

i.e., trust the majority! See the percentages, make your own statistics and see what most people say about the product. If most people hate it, say it's too overpriced or of bad quality, chances are it's completely true!

Leather goods: splurge!

A quality pair of leather shoes, a nicely made leather bag, a leather jacket? All things that will last you a lifetime if you care for them and use them well.

All quality goods should be used - either use it or lose it!

Keep in mind - if you KNOW you're not going to use that bag or those shoes or whatever more than a few times, or even crazier, more than once - DO NOT get it!

Things that you're not going to use more than once: save or don't get!

No further discussion - if you know you're not going to use something a lot - don't get it. There's no reason you should get that $50 hat if you know there aren't any combinations in your collection with which you could pair that with, or that you'd realistically use more than a few times.

Electronics: splurge!

Anything that's an investment you should definitely splurge on! Such as a quality computer, or a good TV... If it's going to last you a decade or more - only makes sense for you to splurge now and save in the long run.

Food: save and splurge!

Yup... You don't need to spend a fortune to buy quality foods. Why not? You can always buy meats or vegetables or fruits from a local farmer - if you so choose and they're not going to rip you off as some stores will... But it all depends on how far you're willing to go to save on food and still get the good stuff! On the other hand - some good foods you aren't going to be able to get cheaply - ever. If they're a staple in your diet and they last you a long time - and you need them - there's no other way but to get them - research prices, find the better ones, but don't compromise quality for quantity. Food is important - it's a part of you, building your cells! What could be more important than food?

Housing: spend wisely!

Be smart - get a professional to go with you who knows what they're talking about - inspect the entire property, the piping, the quality of the walls, floors, doors...everything. Make sure it's all in order and bit accordingly!
