Boyfriends 29th birthday!!! Broke and want to make him feel special, any ideas?

I wanted to ask what makes a mans birthday special? What can I do for my boyfriend who turns 29 on Friday to make him feel special and show him how much I love him. We have been dating 8 months. I'm broke at the moment, about 250 to spend. I have not gotten him a gift yet. Any ideas? We live in Colorado and I was thinking of packing a picnic and taking a hike somewhere. Guys, would you like this? I wanted to do something like skydiving but can not afford to. Does anyone have any gift ideas? I was also thinking of wrapping up little notes, wishes and favors and putting them in a mason jar and having him read a few on our picnic. Is this cheesey? Would a massage with some oil suffice? I just want to make him happy! Please help! If anyone has gift ideas, throw em out there, and if anyone has another day activity?

What kind of stuff does he like? Like, I took my boyfriend to his favorite restaurant and made him brownies (instead of cake) with mint chocolate chip ice cream because those are his favorite dessert items. Also get some sexy lingerie if he's into that (which most guys are). Picnic could be cute though especially if you make his favorite food!

It may sound cheezy to some but a hand made BDay card and the picnic idea is right up my ally. If he isn't all about materialistic thing you will indeed make his day.
