USA Girl asks Danish guy out = cultural difference? (other guys welcome to answer too)

Exchange student from Denmark=guy Lives in USA=girl

I have the biggest crush on this guy and when he and I talk even in front of other people the heat is so there, but when it is not it hurts my heart and makes me doubt things. It is the old school hot and cold dilemma which seems to mean that he is unsure of how I feel. As in one day he can't get close enough to me and hear everything that I say and the next it is like he doesn't even see me.So, in response, just so that he knows that I am really interested, I asked him to a fun event, which will be the first time we would hang out alone, and the problem is that I had to do it over FB cause of circumstances. Now my mind is racing and I am slightly freaking out...Any Danes out there wanna tell me what you think of a girl asking a guy out?

I think its courageous of you and a kind gesture the fact that you went to all the trouble of asking a guy out over FB is awesome I think that requires some serious balls to pull that off, and it also shows that you have some strong emotions for him to do that.

Now I won't generalize on men and women here in Denmark but my general picture of Danish women is they are kind of self obsessed many of them tend to think they are gods gift so to say very stuck up and really hard to read, now that makes us guys pretty insecure on women and many times insecure of what signals they send so sometimes we might need a little nudge to get the picture.

Now as I said this doesn't fit the full populace of Denmark there are some really nice women here and some serious players male wise but I know the picture I just painted there fits the bill pretty well not only for me but also for a lot of guys that I know off.

So to answer your question directly I think you did what was right and kudos to you for taking the step.

I know that your post is pretty old but I hope my answer in some way helped you maybe not on the situation described but maybe for future reference.

PS I myself am a Dane and I would love to have the opportunity to come to the USA and date an American woman but to say the least that would require me to move there so I hope everything worked out.

Hey. I'm from Denmark.

The whole dating scene in Denmark is very different from America, but at the same time it's the same. You go on dates with the people you are interested in, but I don't think a typical Dane date so frekvently as Americans do.(this sound horrible I know but bear with me).

Dating just isn't a big deal here and teenagers pretty much just hang out instead.

But I don't think there is anything wrong with a girl asking a guy out. This happens here as much as guys asking girls out.

Women here are VERY independent, and usually don't settle down until they are about 27-35 when they got their lives together(house, car dog whatever). Many don't get married but just live with a guy instead for years, then get married.

My point is that I don't think he would get scared if you ask him or think less of you.

But teenage boys from Denmark is pretty much the same in Denmark, as they are in America.

Just ask him personally if you are still on for that event you were talking about. If he says yes, I think you're good.

Hmmm. I sincerely hope a Dane answers your question, because I am also very curious of the cultural details that could be going on here...

But just in case, I'll also throw in my 2 cents. I studied abroad for 2 years and I had a lot of flings, and I became very good at creating a "bubble" around myself because I knew my time in any country was limited and it would only be pointless and hurtful to fall for someone when the clock was ticking.

I don't want to discourage you because that's just how I reacted and honestly I don't know if it even applies to your situation. It also sounds like he's interested, so could he just be overwhelmed with everything going on with him right now?
