What should I get my guy friend for his birthday?

First of all, let me make a note. I asked this question a few days ago, and I received a disturbing answer from a totally immature snob, and I did not receive any other answers. I am asking this question again in hopes of getting positive advice now.

I have become friends with a guy this year whom used to be an acquaintance and we met through a mutual friend. He is really nice and helpful, and we have gotten to know each other more this year since we are in the same English course. His birthday is somewhere in the middle of December and I was thinking of getting him a birthday gift.

What do you girls and guys think I should get him? He is going to turn 18, likes to travel, likes military stuff, adores animals, has dreams about battlefields, and wants to be a police officer. Please don't suggest video games because he is always busy and would not have time to play those and I cannot afford video games either.

And just to clarity, if there are any misunderstandings, I don't have a crush on him, he doesn't have a crush on me, I have a boyfriend, and he has a girlfriend.

It's honorable that you're considering him for a gift anyway. If he has any sense, he shouldn't mind what the gift is (and not because its any typical thing but because its just symbolic that you thought enough of him to take time out of your schedule to get him something.) You said he likes to travel, and military stuff. Maybe he may like foreign currency as an idea, or police equipment. I'm sure you can find police equpiment almost anywhere. Maybe a night stick or sometihng, be creative after all

You can choose anything Good.The value of the gift lies not in its cost...It can be small or may be cheaper than a ball pen...You know this Guy for a long tym I see and You know how he thinks...Buy him a simple ,not too costly but decent gift and with that a note with words from your hear and he will be happiest person in the world.

Since he likes to travel, you could make a travel book for him. Cut out pictures of different cities, tourist attractions from those cities. You can include safaris, zoos, local animals, maybe war memorials.
