Which amount is okay for a birthday gift?

I wrote wishlists for my upcoming birthday, but I'm not sure which items I will actually ask for from my parents. I estimated the prices and it's a bit lower than what I got last year. So I think it'll be fine. I will not however ask for the violin I want to have and also not for them to pay for my next trip to Vienna.

It's nice to see your parents choose a gift for you from a wishlist and care about your birthday. Mine since age of 18 just put small amounts of cash in a card and that's it, I live with them and that's all they do no cake no party, they are the opitomy of waste of life. They don't celebrate their own birthdays or care about their anniversaries but did go to everyone else's and buy them gifts until people and extended family realised they are horrible and stopped inviting them. When I was a child my dad would spend my birthday money on himself some years, I'd receive more money than the gifts they'd buy and i never got to spend it. They saved all their money to pay off their mortgage and have 2 houses that are worth £1million. These parents are typically your baby boom generation who could buy houses cheap and got everything handed on a plate. They own 60% of the houses of the country and half of them empty. We just wait until they all die out which is quite soon.

Just give them a list of what you would like and say they can get you any of the items. They can then choose how much they want to get you. Plus it's still a surprise for you because you don't know which ones they'll get you

I know most want to spend a ton, but what about homemade or a romantic gesture? Sometimes that is worth way more.

You could ask for a little money to put towards what you really want.
