So, $35 is a great amount. You do NOT have to shop second hand.

Buy him a book. Or a bottle of wine. Or whiskey or whatever he likes to drink.

Get him some music CDs.

There's so many things you could buy.

Here's the other thing: don't focus on just getting some random gift and its price; get a gift you know they will actually like and use and a gift that shows you pay attention to who they are.
