What gifts should I buy my friends, when I visit America?

I don’t have much money and I’ll have to spend a lot on food. Also, I have a lot of friends and family, who’d all want something. Is it ok to give everyone except my mum and my best friend a fridge magnet?

Ah man, gifts are tough when money's tight. Fridge magnets are alright I guess for like, distant relatives or casual friends. But you wanna get your bestie and mum something better y'know?

Here's some cheaper ideas:

- For your best friend, maybe make them a playlist of songs that remind you of them on your phone. Or put together a photo book on a site like Shutterfly of pics of you guys.

- For your mom, see if there's any small things from your hometown/country she can only get there. Like candy or little souvenirs. Or write her a heartfelt card.

- Other friends, see if you can find cool local crafts or snacks from shops as you travel between places. Like hot sauces in Texas or fudge in Minnesota.

- Or look on Etsy for cool state-themed keychains, pins or temporary tattoos that don't cost much.

Maybe see if any family will let you stay with them so you save on a hotel. And pack easy snacks from home for some meals. Get creative - I'm sure they'll love anything you pick!

If several family members live under the same roof, you could always get them a group gift such as a cookbook from your native country? They really should simply be happy to see you, I certainly wouldn't expect a gift from someone who is traveling to visit me from another country.

but cheap snacks from where you’re at that they don’t have in the US would be really nice
