I know some people who have been hacked by scammers online (namely from Russia and Iran), and the scammers are professionals at what they do. And the victims lost much of what was in their bank accounts! Luckily, they got reimbursed most of their money but not all.

I prefer to buy at shops and in person.

If shopping online use virtual and privacy virtual cards. These mean your main cards and bank accounts are not exposed. You can also delete them very easily

or just get cards you transfer funds on to, these then do not link to your own account. Yes you can still get scammed but it adds a level of protection to your accounts.

Actually I am pretty open to shopping online. Surpringly my first online purchase was in 2015 from a online store Ukraine Fashion. Everyone told me it would be a scam but I will always love Ukrainians and Slavs because it wasn't.

The western union guy said they won't do transaction and then Dollar East guy did it. And I bought this beautiful dress for my sister.

Again same thing, I was contacted by a Chinese to buy inverter for solar panels. I sent full money.

I am not as trusting of people in my own country though

I highly prefer shopping in person and with cash. My first online purchase was in 2020 and over the years, I’ve loaded gift cards as to not attach my personal cards. Im pissed at how I've changed this year. I've been impulsive and risky lately and i gotta fix that quick

Never PURCHASE ANYTHING on line except by credit card, is my advice. You can use paypal, cash app, zelle, apple or google pay, etc., between you and friends, but I don't recommend it with merchants. Why - because credit cards give you the ability to dispute a charge if your merchandise doesn't arrive, or is faulty and the seller won't take a return, or for any number of valid reasons.

That said, do not ever get your credit card from the following banks;
1) Wells Fargo - biggest scammers going. Should have lost their charter years ago
2) Bank of America - cannot be trusted
3) Chase
4) JP Morgan

I've had great cooperation from Citibank and Capital One, which I was surprised by because they're corporate giants. Maybe it's because my business and personal accounts spent a ton of money with them and we paid on time.

I'm careful about what I buy online, and rarely respond to those annoying pop-up ads, no matter how good they sound. Occasionally, if the pop-up is for something I could use, I'll research it (and the seller) and only buy it if everything checks out.

I recently bought a LARGE closet door for the Master bedroom FROM Tampa, Florida.

Twenty-three hundred dollars... Ordered to my specific specifications... the MFG company altered my specs, made it and shipped it... Does not fit.

I had doubts, and now waiting for a resolution... Bought on line... yes.

I definitely prefer to shop at mortar and bricks stores. Just not always possible. We order "commodity-type" items and odd-type items on-line.

The only scamming we had was for Medicare claims that were definitely not ours. Surprisingly, the gov't Medicare Office fixed them up quite efficiently.

In the Netherlands we have a online shop association. If they are registered they are legit. Very nice. So in my country you don't have to worry about scamming. If you buy somewhere else in the EU, you can just check the company out in the local registry. If they are legit, then there is no problem.

Buying from outside the EU, that's tricky. There I always use my credit card, because they reimburse you. Within the EU you can just do an instant secure bank transfer. Easy.

Apart from used games or DVD from eBay I buy pretty much everything in local stores. I want to touch and check the exact item that I buy. I also boycott this monstrosity called Amazon.
