And who was the Union( North) and the Confederates(South) or the other way around?
Yes I suck at history but work with me here please(:
People say there are no good guys nor bad guys, but I see the world in black in white terms. From what I have studied, slavery was a very pivotal issues if not the most pivotal issue that led to the succession, but people want to always make it seem more pleasant than it really is. People always paint it out to be some huge conspiracy theory, but the reality of the matter is, the south was pretty cruel and inhumane because their economical empire depended on it. The pictures of the scarred backs of slaves and works of literature by people such as Frederick Douglas all have some serious credibility. As you can read on my comment to that one user's answer, people just always want to sugar coat everything. "The issue is NOT about abortion here...it's about pro-choice/pro-life" blah blah blah, those are bullsh*t umbrella arguments.
The South believed they were correct in treating black people the way they did because of passages in the bible, they even went on to form their own religious sect because of it. But in my eyes, man written words justifying slavery does not justifying treating human beings like lesser beings, even lower than animals. Read the life and narrative of frederick douglass, then form your own opinion. There's a part in there where a slave named Demby gets his head blown off because he refuses to come out of a lake to avoid being whipped, and his murderer goes unpunished because blacks weren't even considered as persons plus it was within a masters rights, guaranteed by the bible. Do you think there's any greyness in whether is act is right or wrong? I don't think so...
Anyway, I highly suggest you do your own research before buying someone's answer on here as absolute truth, and that includes my answer.
There were no good or bad guys. The South (Confederate) was fed up with government infringing on states rights, and the North (Union) wanted to preserve the Union.
Your awesome!
Nailed it. Too many people get this wrong.

There were no good guys they were both fighting for what they thought was right the union was the north and the confederate was the south
The south(confederate) wanted to keep plantations and slavery and to suceed from the union when slavery was abolished then the south didn't think their plantations could run w/o slaves and they wanted to keep it
The north(union) pretty much wanted the opposit: to do away with slavery and plantations and to keep the south from succeding
Your awesome as well!
best answer?
slavery was part of the reason because if you read above"The south(confederate) wanted to keep plantations" "the south didn't think their plantations could run w/o slaves"
omg I learned this time and time again actually that's what we are studying in class right now
okay whatever kid
Lol @ voltaire, if slavery was not the issue, in what other way was the strength of the federal government being manifested? Slavery was always a hot issue, that cannot be denied. Sure you can say the issue was about the strength of federalism, but that's a diversion, a euphemism even. Saying the civil war was about federalism and not slavery is like saying the issue is about pro-choice and pro-life, irrelevant of abortion, and that's bogus. But like That-1-guy said, whatever kid. lol
@Sun Seeker
thats what I've been trying to tell this guy but we see who didn't really understand the lesson or was just stuck on ignorance and wanted to believe something different
The Confederacy was the South, they wanted to keep slavery and secede from the Union, the North, which wanted to abolish slavery. I don't understand why you don't just google this.
Too much extra info if I google
Yeah, you know society is screwed up when people make excuses for not googling easy shizz
Watevs
I wish the Confederate states would have won
The South WILL rise again.
Im glad we lost its better like this...(im from the south)
