Why do people buy things they don't need?

Right now people are buying the hello kitty blankets and reselling them at an even higher amount. I find it to be greedy that people buy in bulk to just resell them knowing it's what people are wanting. I know that it's their money and they can buy what they want, I just find living a minimalist life is way better than over consumption. I have what I need and only buy what I truly want. I don't have excess amount of beauty products or make up.

They aren't buying them. They are engaging in arbitrage -- buying, then reselling at a higher price. This may d work for a while, but it's a fad that will end and someone will be stuck with a lot of junk they cannot sell.

lol that is true!! I guess if it makes them happy, seems like lots of unnecessary junk to me but everyone is different. I just choose not to be a hoarder lol but to each their own right

Because companies love to advertise people to buy their crap on a consistent basis, even if it’s items people don’t need or even want. It’s mostly how businesses make money, and you can bet they’re very good at what they do. 💵

They are really good at what they do to strip people off their money. It's sad that many of us fall for their crap!! I find myself happy with less junk

I agree, less is better. I don’t genuinely believe buying lots of stuff makes a person truly happy.
