Birthday gift Idea?

Hey guys
I was wondering if you can help me out, it’s about getting a gift for someone special. The only idea I had for now was to get a nice set of chess.
He’s a pilot, loves history, politics, economy, plays chess but online. So I thought I could get him nice set of chess, even tho he’s not gonna play alone, but he has the shelf where he puts like this collectible stuff, like old sword, some old helmets etc, so I was thinking about that.
However nice looking ones are $300 and above and I don’t know if that’s not too much after like 3 months of dating. I can afford it, but I don’t want it to be like a pressure gift, or that could seem like too much. Let me guys know what you think.

The chess board game is a great idea but 300$ after only three months of dating that's excessive, I'll save it for a later date when you both are well established in the relationship.
For my Partner's first birthday I wanted to give him something symbolic and gifted him a nice MontBlanc pen with his initials engraved, he was super happy and still owns that pen, I know that pilots use pens all the time too.

This sounds like a well thought out and planned gift to me. I recommend you give it to him and if he's upset about it find a new boyfriend. If this is the amount of work you're putting into getting them something they better appreciate it.

Don't get buy an ornamental chess set unless you know he wants it. They are impractical for play. Instead get a nice wooden set on a nice wooden board, fairly large. There are speciality sites online that will have a variety at all price points.
