If for a guy, something with practical use. From a pen or scarf/piece of clothes up to a phone or laptop.

If for a girl, something that has more of an emotional value (short-term or on the fly). Bunch of flowers, or a cake/sweets can do.

Otherwise in general, you can always try and know what they need and what affordables you can provide.
Could be an amzaing relaxed hang out or comfort too, where you are extra loving, patient, and willing to help or support.

My wife agonizes over buying presents for the kids. She really spends a lot of time nd effort to find just the right gift. Most of the time they never use what she buys. I tell her to just give gift cards.
