Why are people on eBay selling Amazon gift cards for more than their value? $199 for a $100 gift card, for example?

There are tons of people doing this. Why? Who would be buying these? You can walk into any store and buy an Amazon gift card for its actual value. I think you can buy them right on Amazon if you want.

I see two options.
1) They are hoping someone is stupid enough to buy it without realizing they basically got scammed
2) Money laundering. I don't know for certain how money laundering works, so this is a complete guess.

Because there are some stupid people who will buy them. I also see items being bought on Ebay for more than the retail price.

Money laundering or loophole around some sort of tax/company rules maybe.

Just because it's listed doesn't mean it's selling.

And before you respond to that, if it is in fact it's selling it's because people are willing to pay for it
