For a 50th birthday, is a pricey bakery mud cake worth it over a cheap supermarket one?

A group of us are going out to celebrate this friend’s milestone birthday in a few months. I need to save up money in advance, as I’m treating her to a middle eastern bbq restaurant meal. A fiftieth is a special occasion and there’ll be about five or six of us there. For the amount that my friend eats, it’ll cost a fair bit (for me); and I don’t mind. I’m wondering if I should also buy a really big, beautiful mud cake from the bakery, much more expensive but it looks and tastes a lot better, or a pretty, but much cheaper and smaller mud cake from the supermarket, which won’t taste as good? Is it worth springing for the better mud cake?
