Am I the only one afraid to spend money because I always plan for the worst?

My dad had surgery this month and now he wants to buy electronic health monitors to calibrate his health on a daily basis so he can immediately receive hospital support if an emergency happens, and I was annoyed when he said he did not want to use Amazon discounts this week but preferred to go directly to Costco to buy the health calibration devices for wellness management.

I have multiple plans to make money but I want to save in case my plans do not work.

I always have a back-up plan. When I was previously in university, I would begin borrowing library books for school projects within 5 minutes after the topic was assigned so I could get the good books before my competition did.

And I usually always finished my essays a week before they were due so I would have leeway if something unexpected came up and I had to fix things up before handing it to the professor.

Honestly, I’m kind of like this too. 😅 I always want to have a backup plan because I hate the feeling of being caught unprepared.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being careful with money. Saving for the possibility that a plan doesn’t work out can actually be really smart. The library book thing made me laugh a little because that sounds exactly like someone who likes being prepared before everyone else even realizes there’s a problem. 😂

The only thing I’d watch out for is letting the fear of something going wrong stop you from enjoying the money you worked for. There’s a difference between being financially responsible and being so worried about the future that you never let yourself spend anything.

And with your dad, I can understand why you were annoyed about the discounts, but after surgery I can also understand why he wants something that makes him feel safer and more prepared. Sometimes people spend money for peace of mind, not just for the product itself.

You're not the only one, there are other people who are cautious when it comes to money. On the other hand, it's better to be cautious than reckless.
