Why do people from the north say "idear" instead of "idea"?

Why do people from the south say "rilly" instead of "really"? Or "will" instead of "wheel". "Heel" instead of "hill". Etc. They just can't seem to keep their Is and Es straight! And why do old people say "Warsh your cloths." or "I'm from Warshington."? There is no R in "Wash", old people! Come on now.

Stupid words abound, and they're not really limited to any one region -- although some regions do seem to have more stupid people than others. And yes. I will base my view of your intellect on your mastery of the English language.

Something that's been bothering me lately is people putting a slight "w" sound before an "ah" or an "or" sound in some words (especially when they de-emphasize the "r").  It might not always be a full-on "w," but it's usually at least an quick "u-ah" or "u-oh."  Example:  born-->"bworn," Boston-->"Bwoston," course-->"cuwors."  I actually don't mind hearing it from a lot of people, but certain individuals might as well be scraping their fingernails on a chalkbword when they speak.

I'm from Connecticut, I say "idea." I would say that Boston and northern Rhode Island are hit and miss for "idear" (they have similar accents), but I doubt that it's just them...

Well north where? I'm in the northwestern part of the US and I don't know very many people who say it like that, haha. The people I know who do have accents from other places.

I'm from Ohio and the only person I've heard do that is my math professor who's from Boston, I think. He says "idear" and "datar" and "calculatuh" and "anythin" :P

lol I've never heard anyone say that, except comedians making fun of people saying that. It's not as bad as people who say "I seen that." It makes me want to punch them.

I'm originally from Northern Wisconsin. We say idea. Idear I've just notice with random people from all over. Not a specific area.

Nobody in South Dakota (or Iowa)  says "idear" but I knew a guy from New Hampshire and he said "idear"
