When a guy repeats what you say?

So I have this guy friend who sometimes repeats stuff I say. Like whenever I'll calmly say something he'll repeat it in the same tone like the way I say hello whenever I do that he'll say it in the same voice I did.

Or when I'll calmly ask for a favor from someone like "could you please pass the water?" he'll repeat it the exact same way I said it

It's pretty common to greet someone, when they greet you. A hello deserves a hello back. Are you expecting a top of the morning to you or something like that instead?
