Tunnels won't go through after the taper, help?

I went from a 8g to a 6g about an hour ago and my tunnels won't go through following the taper. I know the rules to stretching I've waited a month and a half between sizes and I have been stretching safely so far. I have always had this problem but now they just won't go in at all, the tapers went in just fine the tunnels just won't follow the taper. I need some help on how to fix this, I know leaving the taper in is bad but I can't get the tunnels through.
