Is nearly 5'5 too tall for a 12 year-old boy?

Though kid brother is already slightly taller than my mother (she's 5'4), I'm wondering if his growth spurt is normal or kind of accelerated? He still obviously looks like a kid but is slim, yet heavy.

Information:
Mother: 5'4
Father: 5'11
Me: 5'7

Also both my parents stopped growing during their early teen years while I was nearly 18 when I stopped.

My little brother was really tall at that age to, he was around 5'7, now he's 20, 21 in a few months, and is 6'1.
He always looked young in his face but people always think he's older because he's tall.
I'm 5'3 and my sisters are between 5'1 and 5'4 my parents are both really quite short, I think my dad is around 5'5 and my mom is shorter than him, but all my brothers grew to over 6ft apart from one who's 5'9.
I think it's because other people in the family are tall, like I have some time really tall cousins, and our parents are siblings or cousins or whatever, so we still have half the same genes, so we can look like other family members sometimes.
I've got 3 nieces who look way more like me in their faces than they do their parents, people always think they're my kids.
One of my brothers looks more like my grandfather on my mother's side, more than he looks like my mother.
Sometimes you see cousins who look more like siblings, and siblings who look more like friends.

No 5'5 is not too tall. It's rather quite normal... and it's still a rather average height. I know a 12 year old boy who is 6'0.

Damn that's a lot. I'm guessing that kid had super tall parents in the 6+ range. Just that I remembered just last year he was at 5'0 or 4'11. It seems to be happening fast.

Your brother is at a point of development. I know it may be sporadic but it is normal. He may just be done growing and will forever be 5'5 ot he may just continue to grow. Time will tell, and the way/timing each person grows is different. And no, not so much. His mom is 5'3 and his father is 5'10... he's obviously taller than them both.

I wouldn't say its TOO tall, but its definetly far above average for a 12 year old boy. The avg 12 year old boy is around 4'9-10. When i was 12, i was around 5'5 (around the same height as the kid in the question). Now, at 15, im 5'10-11 and still growing. Most of the kids in my grade are 5'6-5'8 and my friends vary in height. My shortest friend is 5'3 and my tallest is 6'4. This is just my personal experience.

No that's normal I think, my brother shot up at that age, then didn't grow as rapidly again and instead grew slowly to 6ft.

The average American adult female is 5'5" and male is 5'10". However the average female stops growing between the ages of 16 and 18 or for males its 18 to 20. I'm personally 6'1" and have been the same height since I was 16.

I was 14 when I reached my maximum height of 5'7" if I remember correctly. Didn't keep close tabs on it. So 5'5" sounds reasonable, I'm as tall as my father was.

You were tall for a girl that age. At that age, I was at 5'4/5'5 and very slowly reached 5'7 towards my senior yr of HS.
I guess it's just different for everyone.
