Why do people stare at me when I take public transportation?

I am 18 years old and I have to take public transportation to school everyday because I don't like to drive. I take the bus and I have noticed when I am riding the bus, people outside or in cars stare at me like I am a low life! Why does everyone stare at me when I take the bus?

Something must be different about you compared to others. Is there anything unique about how you look or dress compared to the norm in where you live? I take the bus and subway in New York City everyday. Whenever some drunk-looking or acting guy enters everyone stares at him. If someone dressed in a ripped or nasty outfit, everyone stares at him/her. Why? Because there is something unique about them.

1) you look at them first so they look back
2) you're attractive
3) they weren't really looking at you specifically but you're paranoid so you think so

4) A mixture of the above

If you are imagining that they're stigmatizing you for taking the bus, they're not. Chances are they don't stare at you, and if they are it's not because they're pointing and saying "hey look at that poor loser on the bus!"... it's probably because you caught their eye somehow, maybe you're attractive or they caught you looking at them.
