+1 yDo you actually uhh... live here? I can imagine outsiders thinking this but if you've been here all your life, you'll find that beyond the accent and slang (which may be why you're thinking that), they're generally no different to girls everywhere else.

Asker+1 yIn which city u live in? I came here on student visa last week and i tried to talk to some girls here in my campus but they just kinda ignore me so i thought of not talking to them. I m living currently in melbourne
- +1 y
And I don't think he knows what those are mate haha
- +1 y
It depends on how your talking to them. You got what you receive. If you are awkward they will be, if you are energetic and fun they will be more interested.
Im from sydney so you probably as a new comer dont know what a houso amd such is. But dont worry. All girls are different. You can come across maybe 3-4 uninterested girls but maybe there could be some fun ones the next ones you meet.
Dont blame yourself mate, its nothing personal.
May i ask, is your English good, whats your nationality? - +1 y
Hahaha @MarkyyG123 just saw that after i posted my rreply. Yea figured it out :p
I think most Aussie girls are quite nice. But i haven't been everywhere
Asker+1 yI was born in India but completed my 11th and 12th grade in Canada and now doing under graduation in Australia
- +1 y
Haha no worries bud :)
Exactly right, I'm with @Doffymingo Their pretty nice and welcoming, but like him I too have no been everywhere. - +1 y
Nice! I have a lot of Indian friends, Punjabis mainly amd Hindis also Tamil.
Whilst i am their friend and can speak there language a little bit they do seem to be a little weird sometimes nooffence.
You could be seen as a little weird or so, nothing they are used to. You Hindi or Punjab? Just try not to be too heavy Indian, absorb Australia around you.
Asker+1 yYes i m punjabi too i lived there around 13-14 years
Asker+1 yIf u have punjabi friends then u must be knowing about the thing which they wear on head.(turban)
- +1 y
You sikh im assuming.
I've jad 10 sikh friends at school. Im used to being around them but because they aren't commonly seen they do get looked at sometimes. Its just a little different
Asker+1 yYes i m Sikh and wear turban too but i want to know are girls interested in guys who wear turban?
Asker+1 yEspecially white girls
- +1 y
They just find it wierd. They really aren't used to it. It goes for any country. If i were to go to India or Asia i would be a little weird to the people there.
Its not your fault buddy, im sure in Uni or whatever people will get used to it. Its just strange to us. But becauae I've been living and talking with Sikh's everyday its normal to me. It takes time.
White girls can be hesitant but there are some pretty Indian girls out there :p - +1 y
Desi girls :p
Asker+1 yYeah desi girls. lol. And can u tell me has any of your Sikh friends been in relation with a white girl?
- +1 y
My Sikh friends haven't been that interested in dating but i know of my Indian friend that dated a white girl. But he's more Australian personality.
Its not impossible but why domt you date a sikh girl? I would only marry within ny religion because the person has the same belief and is more likely to work out.
Asker+1 yBecause they are very unique as in India there are no natural blondes so i want my children to be different than my relatives and when i was small from then i am more attracted to white girls there is mo specific reason for that but when i was in Canada there was a gf of mine. She was white but our relationship not worked out and we ended up our relationship but in high school I used to wear different coloured turbans daily like green, red, blue, so white girls were very impressed by that but i not felt that in Australia also it did happened and u r an Australian from birth?
- +1 y
Yes I've beem born and living here.

+1 yHmm u do know that Melbourne and Sydney are notorious for racist attacks, verbal or non verbal... by the whites? Its on the news too. A Chinese student got badly punched and required surgery for his face. If you're indian, you're heavily disadvantaged.
03 Reply- +1 y
The news there are biased too, they feature quite a few Indians being caught up by the law... That doesn't help it either.
Asker+1 yYes i know about Melbourne and Sydney, in India a movie was based on fights between indian and Aussie white "crook" . Yeah i know i m being at disadvantage as being an indian and most importantly as a Sikh. Few day back my relative told me that a Sikh guy was stopped to enter a hotel as he was wearing turban. A turban is a cloth worn by Sikhs to protect hair from dirt. And bouncers stopped him and told him that he has to remove his turban to show whether he was hiding a pistol in his turban or not but he not removed it. And they not allowed to enter him in.. and in France it was illegal to wear a turban while driving 2 wheelers but Sikhs fought against law and in 2012 a law was passed in France that if a guy is Sikh. He is allowed to wear a turban while driving instead of a helmet...
Asker+1 yAnd yes i am at a disadvantage that if i ever had a fight with a white. All whites will support him. And i will be alone there
+1 yYou're treated differently because you're foreign and awkward, not because all Australian girls are X. How would you feel if someone said why all Indians were full of attitude?
Not generalizing also helps in not being perceived as a douche.30 Reply
Haha, I never knew people would perceive us like that xD Maybe because they know a lot of guys drool over them? But tbh, Aussie girls are not 'full of attitude' (the majority aren't), you're generalising it too much.

Haha a bit of a generalisation I'd say! I do think that a lot of aussie girls are full on attitude but there are also many that are down to earth? In what context did you approach them? Who were they with? How did you look and what did you say?
Also, this isn't just aussie girls but lots of girls are shy and when a guy approaches her she can come across as being standoffish when in actuality it's just the shyness :)24 Reply
Asker+1 yWhen it was my first day at uni a girl was in the cafe. She was sitting alone there. I asked her can i sit here. If u r okay and she said no, i m not ok. I asked is someone coming to sit here and she said "idk". Then i said okay bye and sorry for disturbing u. And then i went away. And after that i asked another girl that can u give me your notebook just to see what was done yesterday in class and then she said "i can give u my notebook but u need to learn some English first " i felt like crying at that moment. I know my English is not good but its not my first language and it feels really insulting. Imagine u r from a non English speaking country and a girl whom u t very polite with says u this thing infront of her 3 friends and after that they all laughed at me. If u can imagine yourself at my place then u can imagine how much painful it was to hear. And i not came from Canada here to be insulted
- +1 y
Reasonable response from the first girl. She might have been having a bad day and just wanted to be alone.
2nd Girl was completely unreasonable and even racist in my opinion! Keep in mind that not all girls/Australians are like this. In fact, if I was one of the friends, I most likely would've told her off and I know many people that would do the same. If her friends were nice, they were most likely too shy to speak up.
What's your first language?
Asker+1 yMy first language is punjabi. My second language is Hindi and then third is English. So its quite obvious that my English can't be as good as my other languages. And do australians speaks only English or any other language too?
Asker+1 yAnd in India mostly speak Hindi as it is our national language but I live in Punjab and in my state mostly speak punjabi and before going to Canada I spent 15 years in India and there in Canada too there were many guys in my school who could speak punjabi as punjabi is their second language. If u ever have a friend living in toronto or Vancouver then ask them about sikhs or punjabi language they will tell u. And I had a gf in toronto but she and started to have fights and she started to think that I was having a secret relationship with her bestfriend but it was not that because I was planning of her birthday party and her bday gift so I was spending much time with her bestfriend and one day I was sitting at her friends place and then she came suddenly. And said "you are sick not sikh" she knew I was a sikh as I follow sikhism. And then she said " I dont need such assholes in my life as I am observing u two from many days. And dont even dare call or message me" . And then she never
+1 yWe're not full of attitude, just that a lot of Aussie girls prefer Aussie men. Or at least aren't responsive to other cultures. Sad but true.

Asker+1 yThat means if i want to make an Aussie girl my gf then there chances r very less? But the main problem is i not made even a single girl my friend. But here guys r good though
- +1 y
Yes chances are less. You are minority living in a mostly Caucasian society. Also locals will be able to tell you did not grow up in Australia (from your accent). So yeah, it'll be harder for you get to get an Aussie girl.
Asker+1 yDoes accent really matters to them? Its not that i can't speak English but yes i m not that perfect in English too as its not my first language
- +1 y
Yes it does, because they will be quick to differentiate you from "Indian guy who grew up in Australia who speak good Australian English" vs "Indian guy who grew up in India". Most Australian girls would prefer the former I'm sure.
- +1 y
But on the whole, Australia is still a racist country in many ways. So any minority won't do as well in dating compared to a white person. That I'm sure of.
- +1 y
Agree with the comments. Racism is institutionalised here, and there is a tense/hostile relationship with minorities who do not act like typical Aussies.

+1 yWe are? I think you a will find some girls anywhere that have attitude and some who don't, all depends on who you interact with
27 Reply
Asker+1 yYes i feel like all girls in my campus are.(latrobe uni) . And here girls whom i met not liked interacting with me. What do u think the best way to start a talk with a girl in uni campus
- +1 y
Hmm I'm probably not the best person to ask this kind of advice from - I'm one of the girls who pretty much ignores everyone on campus, except for the few in my class - however this has more to do with that I'm shy and I never know what to talk about with people until I'm really familliar with them - so I tend to stay away.
However, I'd say your best bet would be someone in your classes or degree, so you have something in common and something to fall back on if your having trouble for conversation topics. If your just looking at girls at like a uni caffe or something, I really have no idea, I always feel awkward when people talk to me when they are a stranger and try to get away as quick as possible :/ So don't take it personally!!! - +1 y
Oh and I didn't realise till now that your under 18 so can't really go to the bars or party's that uni's hold, so once you older and can drink, or at least enter bars, it will be easier - also (I'm assuming your looking for a girlfriend or someone to hook up with not just a friend) but girls generally prefer older guys, so your age could be a factor there as well, as most girls at uni, besides some first years, are 18 and over
- +1 y
And scrambled, how long have you lived in Australia?
Asker+1 yI landed in Australia a week back

Asker+1 yActually i was born in Punjab, India and in Canada, Toronto there r plenty of guys and girls of my state. They were also punjabi. And after English their second language in some parts of Canada is punjabi so it was easy for me to adjust there and i also had a white chic as a girlfriend and i was able to adjust with people in just 2 or 3 days
