Is it possible for a sea urchin to pierce your flippers?

They say that sea urchin’s spikes r so sharp, that they can pierce even flippers. Is it true?

They are very very sharp, i'm not sure if they can go through flippers though. But whenever we were at a beach with sea urchins my mum always made me wear water sandals. So by her logic you might be ok with flippers.
Just mind the urchins in any case.
