The latin cultures frequently have gangs and mafias. Mafia is an Italian word. Go look for Italian immigrants in America in New York or New Jersey. Or Spanish-Mexican immigrants who have gang cultures as well. Those are the cultures that most have that kind of stuff.

It is however a fact that the word Mafia and the very concept of Mafia originated in Sicily Italy. Italy is the base Latin culture that affected France, Spain, and Portugal and so they also have similar concepts of mafia in their cultures. I can't say for sure but I infer from my observations that the gang phenomenon in Latin Ameria ultimately came from Latin influence. Again I mean no disrespect. I was trying to help the asker get what she wanted
