I HATE the word BABE?

Why does every couple call each other this? With all the beautiful words in the world. It doesn't feel like a special or genuine word because it's sooo commonly used amongst couples. It drives me mad. Anyone else feel like this? It actually pisses me off just hearing the word. Also I can't stand people who say it excessively. Ahhhhh lol

I don't mind it but maybe that's because I'm not a native English speaker and I don't live around native English speakers.
However, I do happen to mostly converse with my girlfriend in English and we mostly call each other sweety or sweetheart. Maybe that sounds a little outdated to young native English speakers but it works well for us. If we're very intimate, we sometimes also call each other baby or babe.
I also love coming up with lots of goofy new names for my girlfriend and every few weeks it would change again.
Generally speaking, I like English terms of endearment quite a lot. I'm glad I can use them. You should here how it sounds in Swiss. When I hear friends of mine talk to their Swiss girlfriends, it either sounds as though they were an 80-year old couple or it just sounds extremely corny.

Yeah I'm not really into the whole babe thing either, but it has it's time and place. I prefer coming up with our own endearments for each other, more meaning and unique.

@MissSkirt I always assumed the chronology was "baby"---> shortened to "babe" ---> shortened to "bae", phonetically, but then someone came up with an acronym that it worked as too, could be wrong too. I'm still just mad about "fuckboy", haha. Never ever meant anything other than someone who was a joke to you, it was an insult, for like twenty years, and then someone probably overheard it, didn't know the true meaning, and took it literally, and now it's wrongly used like a "player." I get irrationally angry about it😂
