Hmm, in a forest, there can be many trees but less grass. Though in a vast plain, there's so much grass and so few trees. I wonder which covers more of the earth :) And there are deserts with few of both.
I think if we continue to cultivate large areas of land, the trees will fall, but so will the grass... you see more trees in a city than grass.

I'm gonna say leaves. A lot of people here are going with grass, reasoning that more blades are needed per square foot of area, but what they are forgetting is that lawns grow on a plane. It is kinda 2 dimensional. But trees are 3D. The foliage has a girth and a height. Thus I think there are more leaves!
Awesome question by the way ;)
Grass because it takes more blades of grass to cover a square foot and because lots of places have grass but not deciduous trees. Also bamboo is a type of grass and is found on every continent.
I'm pretty sure there are way more leaves. The amazon rainforest alone probably has more leaves than there are blades of grass
Grass because there are places like the tundra that have plenty of grass but no or few trees

Blades of grass are leaves, so apparently there are more leaves than blades of grass :-P
