Ha, ha. We live in a different world today I guess. I used to get hit with just about anything that was close enough to get hit with (brooms, shoes, stick, spatula, belt, etc.). Back in those days we never even heard the word abuse. That was the norm, everyone got hit. Now of course there were degrees of being hit. I knew my parents were not trying to actually "hurt' me, just teach me a lesson. I did witness some parents that did raise this type of behavior to what I would call abuse and then other adults would generally step in and stop it. Behave and do what your mother says and you won't get hit.

Second, I'm sure she has to save for both of you. She also has to think for the future which may be good or times may get tough.
