A combination of familiarity and aesthetics. The majority of the populace on Earth has an innie and that's reflective of a biological standard. Anything that seems to distend from the body is often considered bloated or inflamed, the outtie is no exception.

Fun facts: my older sister was capable of forcefully popping her belly button out of her body up until the age of 8 or 9. It was both disturbing and intriguing. She now has a permanent innie.

I have a really weird belly button. It's like that innie in the picture, but it's straight across my belly. Even when i have a super flat stomach it's like that. I dunno. I think it's because i was a month overdue and i ate my umbilical cord hahaha

Because people like to narrow things down so they don't have to choose, but also like to fit in so just pick whatever thing they feel is most popular.

I never once look at someone's belly button and be like, " HEY~ THAT'S ONE BOMB AS BELLY BUTTON!!!" At most I would be curious as to which group they lie under LOL

Since you asked, I looked at the pictures thinking about it. I think an innie is more aesthetically appealing. I've never paid attention to belly buttons unless they stick out a lot. That's quite rare in my experience.

I have a innie and i love my belly button lol as a kid i used to stick frozen gummy bears in my belly button😅😅... but only down side if u don't keep it clean it will start to stank
