Am I dumb for not knowing how to tie my shoes?

Ok so I'm 17.
& before you go crazy I do know how to tie my shoes, but I don't know how to tie them "properly"

Its hard to explain how I tie my shoes but I'll try & explain
I put each lace in "bunny ears"
& I tie the bunny ears into a knot. It might sound complicated but it's actually very simple...

i found out I didn't tie shoes properly when my mom asked me to tie her shoes, she saw the way I tied them & she was surprised..
she looked at me with disappointment, you all know that look your parents give you when they're disappointed..

Do you think I'm dumb for not knowing the proper way to tie my shoes?

Well, I think there's some important distinction here -
If you KNEW you were tying laces incorrectly, then yeah, you a big dummy.

If you just learned you were tying laces incorrectly and it's a surprise to you, then no, you didn't know you were doing something wrong, therefore just did what you did as if it was correct.

The difference is knowing you're wrong, and being being oblivious that there's a correct way to do something.

Besides - tell your mum if she doesn't like it she can tie her own laces in future.

I didn't think there was an actual proper way to tie shoes I thought you just tied them
I knew I tied my shoes differently, but I didn't know that it'd be wrong if I didn't tie them the way others did

Plus I never really payed any attention to it..
they're just shoes, I didn't think it was that serious

Euhm I actually understand how you tie your shoes. isn't that the right way? This is how we learn it in The Netherlands.

As long as the shoe laces are tied- ... the shoes are good to go, I dont think there's a "proper" way to tie shoes.

While I do know how to tie a shoe properly, I have my own way of tying it which is more convenient. The intelligence of a person isn't bound to one specific area or scenario.

It's not a law. There is a common way of tying them, but it's no-ones business if you tie them your way, and they stay tied when they're meant to. Don't sweat it.
