People who smoke cigarettes, at what age did you start smoking?

I've been thinking about cigarettes lately and was wondering if people only start smoking in their teens... And if you care to share why you started smoking that would be interesting as well. I know for a lot of teens it's just that their friends are doing so I'm especially interested in what those who started as adults have to say.

I used to see the buds that my father left in the ashtray. I picked a bud and smoked since 17 till today I smoke. I feel so bad about it I ask God to relieve me from this habit because I am addicted to it that is dependent on it. So I am in tears for having to smoke everyday 5 cigarettes. I wish I can quit and God sends a miracle if not a miracle he does something for me to get rid of it. I am in deep pain because of smoking I wanna quit so bad. Even my friends quit. I feel i am doing a sin by smoking. Please pray for me from your side that I quit. Rest is in God's hand

You actually have to put the work in to quit. You can't just ask a God to make the addiction go away if you aren't going to do any work yourself

What do I do to quit do you have an answer. You know the meaning of addicted it's so painfull to think that I am addicted to cigarettes. Forget it humans only know how to do things for there benefit that's it. That's why humans were created weak. They can't do anything but assume. Thank all mighty cause I tasted his help and mercy once it was something I can't explain in words. Any ways I just asked you to pray for me that's it sweetheart

I started smoking when I was 14. I think mostly cause my parents both did, my aunts and uncles, grandma and grandpa, and everybody I hung out with smoked. So it made it easy for me to get them and do it. I smoked 1-2 packs of Marlboro Reds a day for 17 years! I quit coming up on 6 years ago! No desire to smoke again and can't stand the smell. (but I never say anything cause I was a smoker before) Honestly... If you don't smoke already, I wouldn't start...

I started smoking when I was 14 years old. I liked the cigarettes, the choice, I liked lighting a cigarette, inhaling the smoke, the good feeling of smoke in my lungs. I like the taste of the cigarettes. The addiction doesn't bother me, I smoke regularly anyway.

Used to pick up dog ends my mother left, and take a drag on them when I was 13. Started buying them at 15. My mother smoked up to 100 a day, and was rarely seen without on. She gave up 35 years ago, and is a healthy 83 year old. I gave up in 2009, when I had a heart attack, and have never smoked since. My advice to anyone would be not even to try. It's too easy to get hooked, costs a fortune and usually ruins your health. Live long, and stay healthy.

I tried it with my bestfriend to know how it tastes and what are it's after effects. But later i have done regularly when my love has left me for good. Drinking and smoking went hand in hand.

I started at 27 because the woman I was married to at the time constantly stressed me out and I always heard smoking helped calm your nerves

I hope I don't offend you because I am not judging but at 27 you knew there were health risks... was that something you had to come to terms with before doing it or was it something you just did without thinking much about it? I've been struggling lately with wanting to smoke but knowing I shouldn't.
