BMW vs Lexus vs Audi vs Mercedes?

Which is your favorite and why. If you've driven/owned one of these how was it?

I know you guys will think it's lame but I'm leaning towards and Audi A3. Hatchbacks are amazing for subs and that's a big thing with my next car.

I don't really have too much of a preference, as I tend to lean towards American cars anyway. But if I had to pick one, I'd go to my German roots and choose BMW. I like the styling they have with all the different lines and the fact that they drop turbos in them more often than American cars. However, they are typical German engines in that you MUST regularly maintain them or they will crap out on you. BMW has that reputation, but hey better than Volkswagen which never work at all lol

Lol I've actually been doing a lot of research and that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. If you go back to like 2004 it is, but 2006 plus is fine.

Guess they've finally caught on lol. I've seen countless BMW's sitting in a garage somewhere because of stuff that is fine if I maintain on my car.

Well like I said before, I'm not really a huge fan of imports but if you are wanting a hatch/wagon, get an STI. Those things can be modded to push some crazy power. There's a guy around here that is pushing 650ish horses TO THE WHEELS! lol that's insane

Yeah it's on my mind, but I'm going for aesthetics and sound over power. I've never really driven a stick either. If I was gonna get an STI then I don't want a Hatchback that means waiting for the 2011 model unless I go used.

Oh and STI's are impossible to find new or used. On cars.com I can set it to a 500 mile radius from my zipcode and only find 17 of them used(30k miles and down) and only 4 new.

Dude, don't be a ricer and worry about looks over performance. Plus STIs look really good and their boxer engines sound great with the right exhaust. I know a guy with a WRX (non-STI) hatch and it looks absolutely amazing. He's got a sub built into the floor in the trunk. And stick isn't hard to learn, it's actually really fun to drive. But hey, do what you want lol. Just making suggestions

A3 is lame. If you're going to go with any Audi you can drive daily- go RS4 all the way. Supposedly Audi is going to roll out an RS5 in the near future too which would be awesome. I come from a Mercedes family. Dad has a CLS63 AMG and mom has an E350 4-matic and an SL550 for the summer, but I do love BMW's. M3's, M5's, 6 series are gorgeous. It's kind of all a matter of personal preference. I have an Audi A4 Quattro and it's great.

My budget stops at around 35k. And if I go used I'd probably go around 25k. An RS4 is not an option. I'm only 21 and going from a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 130k on it to an A3 brand new to 20k or less miles on it won't seem lame to me in anyway. Plus I want the hatch and I like the size/look of the A3 over a VW GTI.

Congrats on your upgrade potential, for 21 that is awesome. Aside from German cars, may I recommend a 2007ish Subaru WRX Sti. 300hp AWD rocket ship. Plus you can modify them in performance stages and upgrade them style wise too. You can probably get a good used one with low mileage for around $20-25k

Yeah it's an option if I can find one. I live in WI so they're seriously lacking around here. Only 17 with 30k or less miles and that's with a 500 mile radius from my zipcode. I've only driven a manual once so I'm kinda iffy and not sure how an STI is in winter. I'm going for aesthetics and sound more over engine power. I know how to do car modifications myself sadly. I am going to take apart my GT for fun because it's not worth trading in. lol So that should be a lot to learn.

Oh and if I get an STI I wouldn't get a hatch back. I hate that STI style.

STi is all-wheel-drive and are awesome in the winter. Once you learn to drive a standard, you'll never want to drive anything but. They're so much fun.

Good to know. I always thought they'd be fun to drive. Too bad they're such a rare car. If I got a new one somehow I'd wait for the 2011 model since they're bringing the better body style back.

New ones are going to run mid to upper $30k's.. If you maybe wait until mid-year you might be able to get one at around your price range. The new one's have trunks and are 305 horsepower stock. They are awesome awesome vehicles.

I say BMW all the way, though I think BMW is better with motorbike manufacturing than car.

My uncle drives a BMW E60 M5, and that V10 <3 is like orgasmic funk to my ears.
