Does a backhand hurts more than a slap?

I only backhanded a classmate once for using the C word. I was 12.

Yeah, it was wrong still. That's the only single time I've ever hit someone. We're now in our last year of HS and that incident has long been forgotten by now.

Yep. The back of your hand has much thinner skin than your palm and your bones are much closer to the surface, not to mention your knuckles. So its less of a slap, more a punch only with slightly less force and broader point of impact spreading the pain to a wider area.

What? When you open your hand, your knuckles almost lay flat with your hand, it's nowhere near a punch in terms of force and has nowhere near the same impact, I think that is a very dishonest comparison to make. On top of that, the motion of a backhand lacks the ability to really put your weight behind it, so you can't get as much force as you can with an open hand or punch.

Thank you for assuming I haven't been back handed just because I don't think a backhand is comparable to a punch, it shows a lot about your character. Backhand hurts less than a slap in my opinion, less force and momentum behind it usually. You can't lean into it the way a slap can, a slap also stings way more, hard to describe haha. As my friend recently told me, "back hand is for disciple, open hand is for abuse!" Haha

The knuckles retract when you open your hand like that, try hitting your wrist with the back of your hand for instance. I don't doubt that the right person could manage it, but no, the average person could not break someones jaw with a backhand, it lacks both the momentum and the driving force.

Possibly. Knuckles are involved.
Forehand is made to emphasis the sound and leaves more of a mark due to the larger surface area.

Backhand is quicker to execute and has the knuckles, it also hurts the sender a small amount too though.
