Is a backhand strike really a man's preferred way to slap?

When it comes to slapping, even a man's and woman's slap is different. If a man doesn't want to punch, he will tend to generally slap but with the back of the hands vs when a woman does it she'll generally do it with an open palm.

For instance my father once backhanded (it wasn't that hard though but enough to shock him and get him to shut up) my older brother when he was in his late teens. It was for arriving tipsy, backtalking and getting in his face, trying to challenge him.

Very few times I heard of women backhanding. So a backhand strike is a manly strike isn't it?

I even saw that in episodes too. The men always delivered the slap with the back-hand and women with the open palm.

Backhand is often a much less powerful strike so I would think it is used more as a warning to stop whatever it is that caused him to respond that way and that there could be much more severe consequences in the future if it isn't stopped.

If the intent is completely nonsexual, sure. But if it's a low key attempt to sneak a way to touch a woman, the palm is key.

Back handed slaps are generally considered more disrespectful. Which is stupid because hitting people is already disrespectful

I've only punched a bully once when I was 14 and never got bullied again. No amount of reporting nor ignoring the bully worked and only fighting back (yes, unfortuantely violence) did the job.

I don't have a preference, per se. I've never given it any thought. I've only slapped a woman once and it was with an open palm. It was my ex who I slapped and I've never regretted it. She had anger issues and had become increasingly verbally abusive, and then physically abusive. She had slapped me on several different occasions, thrown a houseplant at my head, and even punched me once. I had enough and told her if she hit me again I would hit her back. In her anger she immediately slapped me again and I instantly slapped her back and knocked her down hard. She was on the floor crying like a baby. She later apologized, and she never hit me again, ever. No regrets at all. She was literally a different person after that, but we ended up parting ways about a year later. Again, no regrets.

Well an ex is an ex for a reason. She was just a girlfriend, so nothing was lost. If they're hitting too much, that's the time to leave an unstable person instead of wasting time. When it gets to hitting back, that relationship should've been over long ago. You actually took a risk and got lucky she didn't report you. There are certain vengeful women out there.
The reason I'm saying this is because someone else in my area did that very same thing too. He got fed up one day and slapped her moderately. She still reported him, elaborated more lies and the guy is still ruined till this day. He had a hard time finding a job and got ditched several times for that. That's the type that wants to get a guy to hit her so she can ruin his reputation.

What worked out for you, didn't work out with that guy in my area. The latest I heard about that woman was about another guy that's filing some type of defamation charges against her. She has ruined someone else's reputation too. Unlike your ex girlfriend, I think that woman is a pure narcissist or even sociopath, those don't change at all.

While I don't disagree with much of what you've said here, I do believe in doing the right thing, even if it's a legal risk. A woman who hits a man unprovoked deserves to be hit back. In fact, men have an obligation to do it. It's the only way to teach women they cannot hide behind their gender and expect to be able to physically assault men without consequences.

I actually felt bad for once (I was then 14) punching a bully that kept throwing me in the mud for thrills, for no reason. I caused him a busted, bloody lip. It dazed him. He was a total jerk. Even though I didn't get bully again, I still ended up suspended for 5 days. But yeah people that hit for no reason are trouble makers.
Two rules my parents taught me regarding fights were these:
- Do it only to defend myself, if needed and do not slap in that case.
- Don't ever start fights with stronger folks but if you start one, it better be damn good enough to knock them out. Then run before they recover.
But yeah I hate those women too. That want to dish it but suddenly start crying if it's returned.

You did the right thing even though you got suspended. You taught him a lesson he likely hasn't forgotten.

My younger sister did the same thing to a neighbor boy who was a bully in the neighborhood. She was about that same age too. It changed him and he was a better person afterward. He actually became a friend eventually.

In a nonsexual way such as fighting because it is a martial arts technique or as a warning then backhand.

In a sexual way such as flirting, slapping a partner's ass, during sex, etc then naturally open palm.

Slapping with the open palm is a female way to hit someone so yeah it is. But a punch is better.

I think whether to slap or punch depends on the circumstances, the motive/reason behind the hit, the person, etc. My father clearly could've destroyed my brother at the time. He didn't want to beat him badly, draw blood or leave him with a swollen cheek if he had placed a well, hard punch. So instead he used a backhand strike, the type when a parent slaps a rude child. It got the message immediately.
I punched a bully at school once who was harassing me. He kept throwing me on the mud several times. That really deserved a punch as a slap wouldn't have done nothing. That punch dazed him badly and I didn't get bully ever again.

yeah there are times it shouldn't be use as the first resort. An old man/woman shoving or slapping you once for instance, if you punch them, they can get injured badly or you can even kill them; then you're facing prison time.

Slapping is bs anyway. If you're going to hit someone make sure it's not something they can get up from.

The only strike I've ever done was against a bully at school that kept harrassing me and shoving me on the dirt. I had enough one good and gave him a solid punch. Never bullied again.

I actually hate fights but if I had to seriously defend myself, then hell yes I'm either going to delivered a neutralizing strike (no chance of retaliation) or a leg sweep that gives me enough time to run afterwards.

Men don't slap. If a strike is necessary it will be the hardest blow he knows, the most efficiently way he can, in the most vital area available.

Believe me if my father wanted, he could've easily destroyed my older brother who was 17 at the time. He didn't want to punch him though. He didn't want to knock him out. He just wanted to put him in his place, as in ''back off, respect me because I'm your father'' thing.
Generally speaking, a man doesn't want to hurt his child badly either.

Needless to say that got him silence fast. If that worked then a knock-out strike and what you're saying wouldn't be necessary. If you already got your objective and put them in their place, that's it. Continuing more than needed would be excessive.

Yet I've seen it coming more natural from women than men. I've seen episodes on TV of men slapping and it's like they naturally do it with the back-hand.
