What was your first gynecologist/urologist visit like? How old were you and was your doctor same or opposite sex? (Read More Below)?

I’m a bit nervous. I refused to fly to my boyfriend on Friday the 13th and now the fact that I have to go to the gyno on Friday the 13th is just as scary. I don’t want to receive any bad news or anything. This is my first time ever going, But omg the trip i just had with these people was crazy... Read below:

OBGYN RECEPTIONIST: I know you’re only off on a Friday, so we can to do your appointment Friday the 13th but i’ll have to give you a male doctor but i promist there's nothing to worry about.

ME: Oh im fine with male or female, its my first time either way. But do you also do testing because although my boyfriend and i aren't gonna have sex, I just wanna make sure im good just in case something were to happen.

OR: Yes we do that and its all included with the pap smear. Just call your insurance lady to see what the co payment will be

Insurance Lady: You’ll be 100% covered as long as its at a certain location within our network

ME: Hey OR, the lady said your address may not be in their network. Is it?

OR: Tell your insurance lady she's AN IDIOT! We get your insurance all the time here.

ME: Um, she said that they should be covered

INSURANCE LADY: Oh heck no, one moment im gonna put you on hold and call these ppl!!

ME: *blank stare*

INSURANCE LADY: Ok looks like we cover that address too but make sure they only do a pap smear cause anything else is extra cost.

ME: *blank stare*

OR: Oh yes ig i forgot to mention that its $200 for STD Testing and thats not included in routine pap smear.

ME: Ok cancel the testing part

MY MOM: You made an appointment at the wrong place.

OR: Hi, is this Desi? (*mumbles* for like the 5th time)

ME: Hey OR, sorry to waste your time but my mom says i already have a doctor so i need to cancel my appointment

I’m a guy and have been to a urologist Desi, no worries, you should only relax and trust the doctor, then everything will be just fine. What will be said between you and the doctor will stay a secret between both of you. It is their job and they swear for it. Regarding what you have updated on the question, well the only advice I can give you is to be honest and crystal clear with the doctor Desi, whether you are sexually active or not, when was the last time you had a sexual intercourse, etc... and don't worry about the clamps.

My first doctor was during puberty and a SHE not a HE. It was so embarrassing for me a woman checking me down there and could not help the erection. She laughed and told me it is normal, nothing to be ashamed of, and everything is WORKING fine obviously!!! LMAO
At school they used to check us out with the nurse during all the years till graduation. Since then I never wanted a male doctor and I got used to a female doctor. She has been helping a lot even though I tend to drop many unrelated questions.

By the way, I remember you talking about the "Bushes", which are the pub hair. Some guys as well in this site think shaving is better. As per her, a guy should only slightly trim the bushes, not shave everything (I will leave the details of why later on but I used to shave and stopped it after she explained what are the consequences)

DESI, relax, be yourself, tell your doctor everything honestly and be crystal clear. This is your health and everything will be between the doctor and the patient.

I had a ultrasound of my testes done. It was by an attractive female nurse in a dark-ish room rubbing a Vaseline covered probe on me. Surprisingly we had a normal conversation.

My first exam wasn't even a full exam. I was 23. I had just been admitted to the hospital (I would later be diagnosed with RA, menorrhagia, and iron deficiency anemia). They were running a bunch of different tests and they wanted me to see the OBGYN. He was an older man, that was the first thing that made me uncomfortable. And then my period was on. I remember laying on the table feeling like I was gonna have a panic attack. He literally just shoved two fingers in and it hurt like hell. He said he couldn't do the exam because of my period and then they just sent me on my way. Getting changed, I saw the blood on the table and I just felt horrible. Waiting for the transport people to bring me back up to my room, I was by myself on a hallway and I just cried. It was a bad experience. I didn't get another exam until i was 28.

I was like 20. Had started the pill, so I had a pap smear. It was as comfortable as a situation like that could be. Hurt like a bitch, but the doctor was nice. My doctor was a female.

I have gone once. But it was a while ago. I was like 14 I think? 14 or 15. And my dad suggested I have a girl doctor because he thought that would be more comfortable I guess. So that's what happened. I don't think anything was actually wrong with me. But they told my parents some stuff I wasn't listening to lol. So maybe I did and it just didn't require anything be done? I don't know. I don't want to go again though.

I don't know where you live, but here in Chicago there are hundreds of places that give free testing for HCV, HIV, STD, etc. Even treatment is free at those locations.

Before paying that ridiculous amount, try to search clinics that provide free testing.

Sorry to hear of all this. You women go through a lot. I respect all you women's courage. I do have a question and I may sound like a dumbass.. but hey I am a male.. I have three sisters but it's not like something we speak about. Ok.. my quesiton is, at what age to girls/women have to start seeing an gynecologist? Is it different for different women such as does it depends when your period starts to occur, or is it based on age, etc?

My first visit was pretty good actually, I think I was 18, I arranged it through the GP partnered with my university and it was very easy. I had a male doctor but it didn't make much of a difference.
