No. It's just a skill set like anything else. Its a talent. A person should not be attracted to you solely for your talents or what you can do for people. Because now that person is only with you because you could. But that is not tell us about who you really are about. I can speak Beginner Japanese for years but what does that prove? That I can speak a semi-difficult language. What a person SHOULD be attracted to is the fact that I am a believer of God, believes in marriage, that sex belongs in marriage and that children shouldn't be born outside of wedlock. That I believe in family life and maintaining good relationships with people. Am willing to work hard for my pursuits, is kind and obedient, etc.
It can spark interest that can start a friendship. But it should not be a factor in dating and romantic prospects UNLESS you are looking to live in a place where such languages are mandatory for communication.
@Fuentes I like to learn other languages too, so you're being very judgmental and assuming. I like Chinese, Korean, Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, Persian, etc. So that says a lot about you. I plan to go to Japan. How else am I to work, live and eat if I can't speak the language? It's common sense.
To live on a working visa it is a requirement to have some type of Japanese language skills such as taking the JLPT exams and having a college degree. That is a must if I expect to live there. So please don't talk about who's basic when you never bother asking if I speak or desire to learn other languages. Because I've studied a bit of Spanish and German besides Chinese.
@Fuentes Wow, yeah, you are judgmental for saying that. Because in most cases they do not want people who are not going to improve their country and relations with the nation they come from. And many Japanese are not turned off by foreigners who love anime. I have Japanese friends and even one or two who wanted to date me, so it's really stupid for you to think such negative things. They just hate foreigners who disturbs their way of living.
Anime may have opened the door for me to know where my future is destined to be at, but it is not the sole reason for me to go to Japan. And many people can be successful if they have rational reasons to go there. Most people do not learn much about Japan because sadly J-culture is one of the only things that open doors for people to take interest in Japan. That's how Japan makes marketing profit besides selling goods as most people have no interest in Asain cultures without it. It's not even anime. It's the culture and the world they live in that aligns with my beliefs. Not everybody is meant to stay in the country they were born in and I always knew that I didn't fit in here with my beliefs and the way of living I want.
Yeah and you met them off the interwebs or they were here visiting which makes sense because that's a easy route to get some! Because all these girls arw crazed for it once you go there they'll be disgusted and turned off the minute you mention those weird cartoons haha what ru gonna do over there anyway peacecorps or something?
@Fuentes Easy route to get some! What the hell is wrong with you? I would not be friendly people who are not like me or share my interest. They are not like that at all. And the few I know lived here before they returned back to Japan. I am not going to be working in some peace corps! I will be studying Asian studies and business and work in the entertainment/business industry like any normal person to generate income. Do you think I am joking about this stuff? If I had the money I could have went to an animation school and they were going to take me. And yes, big major companies send people to hire perspective students to work for them. Unbelievable.
Unlike other people, I am not there to fool around. I am there to have a career I enjoy and work with other people different from me who equally shares them. Most people cannot handle it and only go there to experience culture yet to not actually build a future at. You learn to network with people and build connections. I have connections to get those types of jobs. I just need a degree and professional work experience. Everything else I have the self-taught skills of over 10 years to even start my own company if I wanted. They want you with something, that is the law.
You said it yourself it took anime to make you wanna go to Japan, you mean to tell me a weird cartoon that attracts 90% weirdos (not calling you weird i know some normal people who watch it) influenced you to wanna learn their language & move there because you saw anime lol that's just plain disrespectful to a culture & so not the peace Corps so you make cartoons and draw art work?
I did not say it took an anime to make me want to go to Japan. I said that it helped open doors. It's not about anime itself, it is about the place. Most people don't learn about Japan's except through anime. The rest I learned on my own. The culture of people and how they lives attracted me. Not fictional life. And many people of Japanese do not have a problem with it. I don't just do animation, I also do professional music production for over 10 years of my life. I have family members who work in the industry. And even famous people. You can work in any industry if you have experience and know people. So I have the skill set to get the jobs I want. Just not the education and the finances to fund them.
I knew that since I was a toddler that I didn't belong here. I even had a vision about my adulthood and looked exactly as I looked now when I was just 7 that I was going to live there. And that was before seeing what the actual Japan looked like. So no. I always knew something. Just not it was there until I was exposed to anime and learning about the country. And it that feeling never went away since. If it was just a passing dream it would have went away. It didn't. Every year it gets stronger and doors open up for me to pursue it. Not everybody is meant to be there 0r even come here. You know how the old saying goes. Many are called but few are chosen. That's anything in life. At least I'm prepared and what I'm getting into. Their not weirdos. Their just misunderstood people who find solace in anime because sadly the world is not as kind, and sometimes interesting than the lives you see in fiction. Just like I had developed a passion for music because my whole family loves music, and my dad is a DJ by trade and had even worked professionally with artists before they even became famous. How can children have dreams if they cannot engage with the world around them? You have to think about that before you decide to judge a person for why they do things they do.
Aww a Music major huh? Waste of time was it? Are u working fast food now is that why you have dreams and aspirations of Japan? And if you wanna learn about Japan you would just go to WW2 and how they invaded most of Asia and learn history and their cultures and the many battles we had before that nuke.. and how our country put the Japanese here in Camps That's how i know about Japan, you'd be surprised to know how many anime fans don't know Japan took part in WW2, woudn't ever go there seems boring also no i know Japanese dudes when asked about the "OTAKU" people like you they dislike you just imagine the conversation now..
Them: Where are you from?
You: America
Them: what made you wannna come here, Military or Peacecorps
YOU: ANIME!!! NOTICE ME SENPAIII
THEM: ... 👋🚶
I can see how you really don't pay attention to anything that is being said. NO. I am not a music major. I do not have the proper training of an instrument or experience in band to be a music major. No I am not wasting time. I have never been to college. That s how I know now your assuming and judgmental.
I am not working at some fast food restaurant as I don't even have dick Spears to even get a job in such places. And no that is not why I have aspirations I'm going there. And second of all I am not an Otaku. You don't even know what the word otaku means. It means 'Your' in Japanese language.
They don't speak or ask such questions like that relates to the military. And no. I would go there because I want to live differently than American way of living in a country that doesn't even really care about its people. And differently not in a place that sadly doesn't want to hire you because your eit he underemployed or you have no job experience. That goes to show you how ignorant you are. I thought I made it very clear to you that I am planning studying Asian studies and business? There are many different careers that you can have by having such a degree. So stop being rude and condescending.
Omg these typos. Hospitality experience*
That is a good show you how very stupid you are. They want people who actually going to live and integrate to their culture. Now people was going to fool around with fictional crap. I don't have anything to prove to somebody like you who's very arrogant and ignorant. I am not obsessed with it unlike other people who come take it too far beyond just a hobby. I am very serious about my career prospects and I do not take it for granted. If I was going to take it at just a hobby I would have picked a different career that was actually going to make me money.
Who you're referring to are just people that are just obsessed with Japan, because they know nothing else. I learned about ww2 also as most have. But I'm sure you did not learned that until 2nd/3rd grade as many of us did. So that is just stupid. I had interest in music and film production in general. So whether I worked for Disney or Sony, or a small studio or film comapny, what does it matter? What matters is that I start somewhere in my career and as anybody else you build up your credentials. Japan may not be perfect. But I would rather be in a place that actually cares about family values, working together, and not be doing stupid stuff all the time, like so called Americans be doing here. And I most certainly do not want to be around negative and ignorant people.
First of all, no, you don't do that to people. If you want people to have respect and take you seriously you don't go around doing stuff like how you're doing. It's not a joke. It's things like what you're doing is why a lot of people give up on their dreams, and grow very depressed because you're spreading negativity instead of spreading positivity. At least I am being very realistic.
Not more interesting but more dangerous.
You cannot criticize in all safety because there is always the risk they understand what you are saying.
I have been in that situation a number of times where people were talking about me in a foreign language assuming that I did not understanding and the reaction when you just tell them something like "bye, was nice hearing your comments but next time make sure people don't understand you when you criticize" is so priceless.
It is indeed an advantage when seeking for a job or when traveling. The fact that you are multilingual opens so many doors in most aspects of life.
One can be a boring person speaking English only and I don't think that speaking Spanish in addition makes the people less boring if you never have anything to say.
I think it makes them more intelligent, yes
I wish i knew another language.
Considering taking up Spanish and french.
Almost everyone in developed countries seems to know at least two languages. I would say it makes them more attractive though. It's just an additional resource. Maybe a sign of intelligence. I know English and Russian. I don't brag about it or think I'm special.
Da sa ie reken dan
Da what denk je wel dan
Then what do you think huh
You tell me, what that not interesting that i can speak 3 languages :) lmao

No, but it's more interesting and makes them more marketable for jobs.
Dora is pretty interesting so ima go with yeah
Not at all in my opinion. Maybe it’s just because I’m American and because I’ve never traveled and have never actually met anyone that didn’t speak English, but I don’t see much value in speaking multiple languages. I’ve taken a year of Spanish and three years of French in school and I’ve never needed to use any of it outside of the classroom. So tbh I kind of consider it a waste of time learning a language, and the only reason I care about it at all is because I need to take those classes to graduate high school and get into a college.
Yes, for sure. I love languages and I find the ability to speak other languages attractive. It would be helpful if one of their two languages matches one of my two lol. Though I think it would be cool if the second one didn't match. Then I could learn another language!
To a lot of people yes, cause it means you are cultural experienced with someone else's language. I think people like when others can speak more languages than one cause that means it's easier to talk to them in whatever language they know. I actually want to know more than English, i tried Spanish but i didn't learn much lol
Depends on what other language (s) they speak. If it's just Spanish, then no. I'm used to that, but if it's some other language that I'm not used to hearing all the time, then I'd probably find them a little more intriguing.
@LtJackass tu es très bête
@LtJackass you are very dumb
Used to Spanish how so?
Do you mean that you heat a lot around town or that you you can actually speak , read , and write in Spanish?
I live where in Texas where the kids say they speak Spanish but in reality ts more like a mutated Spanglish. Most of them cannot speak the language properly nor can they read or write in Spanish.
@Texaskid1 I'm from SoCal (born and raised) and there's tons of immigrants/Spanish speaking people here. I don't speak Spanish myself, tho.
Only if they're bilingual in the sense they can speak Klingon or pig latin fluently.
But yes, it does make them more interesting in my opinion.
I Watch this guy on youtube called Laoshu he speaks almost every language abd he walks up to people who speak that said language and they're so surprised especially the girls they talk so much more and wanna give their numbers lol i want all that smoke frfr
I speak native and English quite well. The only good thing about this is that I look dependable when a foreigner comes to my city and asks for direction. On other situations I'm just like a dictionary for others.
I am bilingual and I’ve never understood the weird fascination about it.
Personally I don’t really care as long as I can understand you 😂
People have the weirdest fetishes I swear.
It's expected where I'm from, so it doesn't do anything for me. It's interesting when someone can speak more than 3 languages (3 is also kinda the norm if you are a national minority).
It depends. Yes, it makes you more attractive if you already are physically attractive. If the person is really not handsome or pretty, it makes your chances of getting a better job, higher, and it makes you more qualified. It may make you seem more appealing but then again, only if you are already physically attractive.
That's the standard here. People speak Dutch and English. No, it doesn't make them more attractive. It just means they haven't completely fucked up during the last 10 years when we always have English in school.
just because everyone takes English classes, doesn't mean most people speak it. Out of all of my classmates from 4 years of middle school and 2 years of high school, only four of them could've speak fluent English. One Polish, one from Bonaire, two Dutch, none of them learned it from school. Besides that, i've realized not many Dutch people speak English by observing situations
90-93% of the Dutch population claims to speak English in an acceptable rate. Say that 10% of those people are wrong and their English is incomprehensible, that leaves 80% of the Dutch population conversable in English.
So yeah, it's quite impressive to not speak English in the Netherlands in a conversable way
Im bilingual.
I feel it helps me in my job/carreers. people find my family dymanics "cool"
I neve thought much about it.
in the right enviornment, a better job.
with knowing more languages and helpful to other people at times.
ditto on the "right environment'. I don't even bother listing my Urdu skills on my CS resume or forms when they ask. I would probably list it if I learned Spanish or German.
@shephardjhon Urdu is needed in my job area lol..
I agree.. most other places have no use for Urdu
never heard anyone say they need an Urdu speaker unless they were NSA ( university hiring brochure indicated they preferred Urdu speakers). Why did you need Urdu?
I'm neutral, I speak both English and Icelandic fluently, and know many people who also speak both fluently, and it hasn't made them more interesting or attractive.
It's attractive because to me it's a good skill and is an intelligent trait. There is nothing wrong with someone who isn't bilingual, however. People are just beautiful.
Most europeans can talk more than one language
Well most Asians too id imagine
So to me it doesn't make them more attractive, ill just think something is wrong with them if they aren't bilingual 😂
More attractive, no. More interesting and worldly, yes.
I don't know I do English and Morse Code. Yes Morse Code is technically a Language. Not everyone can do it.
